lol holy shit mississippi.
I know it sounds like a lot but it's quite common for the party that gained the presidency to hemorrhage seats in the following mid term. Pretty much only time it hasn't happened in the last 40 years was Bush Jr's first mid term... and he made up for it in the 2nd one lol.
Was still the biggest democrat victory in a midterm since after Watergate. So it's still actually a lot.
We don't exactly have a ton of historical data to go off of and the landscape of politics is constantly shifting, but given how good all the conditions are I think it's safe to say that Republicans paid a hefty price for Trump's tomfoolery.
I mean, the only time in the last 20 years that Democrats have taken the house was in response to George W Bush invading the wrong country (twice?) combo'd in 2010 with crashing the economy. This triggered the infamous REDMAP project, where Republicans gerrymandered the fuck out of everything in 2010 (no effect until the 2012 election.)
So Trump managed to lose the House without invading the wrong country, with a booming economy, and with a more favorably gerrymandered map than has ever previously existed. He is a fucking disaster and makes the Republicans' recent veering into the undemocratic lane of governance even more salient to people.
It's not just Trump though, it's the public rejecting the tax plan giveaway to the rich and especially the repeated attempts and partial successes Republicans have had in fucking with the ACA.

I concur with most of the words you have said but Dems took the house in 2006 and lost it in 2010. turns out you don't even need to tank an economy to lose the House 5,000 dead Americans on false pretenses does the trick.
party congressional elections today. Senate leadership remains the same all around with Schumer and McConnell coasting to victory + Trumpinista Kevin McCarthy takes Ryan's position as leader of House Republicans, Steve Scalise takes the #2 position, and somewhat surprisingly Liz Cheney (yes that Cheney) joins GOP leadership at #3 despite only being elected in 2016.
some drama among House Dems, reports that Pelosi doesn't currently have the votes and will need to do some horse trading to get confirmed as Speaker.
For fucks sake, vote for someone else. I don't care if she leads from the shadows but do you want to lose your gains in 2020?
Can't beat somebody with nobody.

Same reason we didn't want Clinton. It's not that she's not capable or that she can't do the job. But when you've been a target for Republicans for as long as she has, you're going to bring down the whole thing with you. It allows for them ton continue their attacks. They need a new "face".
So theres nothing wrong with Pelosi, but you dont want to give her the job because her political opponents dont like her.
Gotcha.

You have to own up to Clinton's negatives when she's your nominees. But if you're running your national senate/congress campaigns by proxy, it's a lot harder to make it about Pelosi than the actual opponent. You're also presuming anyone that would be swayed by the argument that Pelosi is evil won't equally eat up any narrative that her successor is evil.
The people that you should be concerned with are the Dems who don't like Pelosi. But if you think Pelosi is capable and will push a sufficiently progressive agenda, that should give you all the energy and "results" you need to entice the anti-establishment voters.
WaPo is saying it's beyond rumor and they can confirm at least 17 Dems oppose Pelosi, with the number as high as the mid-20s, and a public letter from them will be released later this week. several races are undecided but they estimate she can only afford to lose 14 or 15 votes. her supporters are getting p gross dealing with the insurrection, saying not electing Pelosi would be an insult to all women and dismissing the opposition as 'five white guys'.
