    But still

    Who then?

They'll extract some concessions about legislative priorities or whatever and succession and fall in line. It's smart intra-party politicking.

think it would be the height of stupidity to elect such an unpopular, uncharismatic old guard figure to be the face of opposition over the next two years in a party so hungry for new voices but you do you Dems.

None of the heir apparents are standing up and challenging her. They'll probably work out a transfer of power but have Pelosi as interim speaker.

In other news Chuck Schumer apologized to Mitch McConnell for all the fuss caused by Democrats voting.

I arbitrarily declare Brian Schatz to be the next speaker. Pelosi can do everything behind the scenes, but Schatz gets to throw down on the twitters and lead people who don't want Pelosi.

I wonder if that will hold. A little surprised not a single ambitious pretender is raising the banners given her vulnerability, but Nancy is famously vindictive and perhaps they fear her wrath should they fail.

Lotta people seem to like Barbara Lee for the job but it's really just young internet folk wishing for it rather than her actually vying for it.

She does seem like a great pick though, shame.

Also the inevitable fake news about her work with the Black Panthers would be awesome and hilarious.

Lee is running for House Caucus Chair. All the rivals for speaker are challenging from the right and not the left.

Idk how itll end, but it better end with the opposition like AOC coming out afterwards saying that she supports our speaker, presumably Pelosi, whole heartily after negotiations on priorities. If this ends up like the aftermath of the democratic primary when the far left refuse to join the rest of the left because they didnt get what they want, then we deserve what Trump will do to us in 2020 and beyond.

I mean, in 2016 Bernie whole-heartedly came out in support of Hillary Clinton after negotiation of priorities.

Or maybe they're holding out those votes to get some concessions from Pelosi.

Yeah, and didnt take him weeks of shuffling his feet to do it? I guess as long as Democrats eventually, non-enthusiastically support Pelosi it's all fine? Yeah that's gonna be a no thanks from me dawg. This is a chance for the freshmen to show they mean business and not just looking for cheap fights for more publicity. To come up with plans of action and solutions, and not just be lip service to a far left base.

Not saying they arent doing that, but all eyes are on them to do something other than "Pelosi badddddd".

    Here's AOC herself.

“Should Leader Pelosi become the next Speaker of the House, we need to tell her that we’ve got her back in showing and pursuing the most progressive energy agenda that this country has ever seen. One of the things I admire so much about Leader Pelosi is that she comes from a space of activism and organizing. And so I think that she really appreciates civic engagement. What I’m here to do is to support the folks who are here. This is about uplifting the voice and the message of the fact that we need a Green New Deal and we need to get to 100 percent renewables because our lives depend on it. We are here to back [Pelosi] up.”

The fact the dems haven’t groomed anyone to be the next speaker when the odds were in their favor to win back the house, and figured putting Pelosi back up there will be A-Okay, tells me all I need to know about their priorities.

And really that they haven’t learned jack shit in the past 2-3 years other than their volume control for orange man bad.

They have people groomed. AOC just primaried the 2nd person in line lmao.

Also you're asking 90% of democrats to agree on one person. A similar shitstorm happened with Paul Ryan when Boehner left.

This. People acting like Pelosi is all the dems have up their sleeve and that's just not true. People also acting like Pelosi hasn't been getting work done, which is also not true. Shes the most experienced leader we have right now in the house and I'm all for promoting a new generation of leadership, but there has to be a path to get there.
