Similarly, Gillum dunking on that doofus DeSantis is entertaining, but his politics...they're good folks.

Gillum supports the replacement of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the U.S. Department of Justice. He seeks to expand Medicaid to cover "...700,000 people, who right now don't have access to health care".[50] He supports the removal of Confederate monuments.[51] Gillum wants to raise the Florida corporate tax rate to 7.75 percent, up from the current 5.5 percent, which he said would generate $1 billion in revenue which would be used on education funding.[52] Gillum supports a $15 minimum wage.[53] He is endorsed by Bernie Sanders and has received financial support from Tom Steyer and George Soros.[54][55] Gillum has called for the impeachment of Donald Trump.[56] Gillum accepts the scientific consensus on climate change, and has warned that climate change causes sea level rise with adverse effects for Florida.[57][58] He opposed the Trump administration's decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, and said that he would as Florida governor work with other states in a state-based climate alliance.[59]

Gillum opposes Florida's Stand-your-ground law.[53] Gillum is in favor of a 2018 ballot proposition, Amendment 4, to restore the voting rights of most individuals who have completed felony convictions (excluding individuals guilty of murder or sexual offenses).[60][53] Gillum said, "Floridians who have paid their debts deserve a second chance and they should have a voice in our state’s future. Our current system for rights restoration is a relic of Jim Crow that we should end for good."[61]

I really hate the "Impeach Donald Trump" as a talking point. Dude won, and until the FBI comes out and connects the dots we just need to deal with him until 2020. It isn't like his backup is going to do us any favors, and impeachment will just give R's something more to run on and get their voter base out there.

We need a good 4 years of this shit so new voters get to see the cost of taking an election cycle off. Dem's seems to forget shit after 8 years.

It's not like the guy is campaigning on Trump's impeachment. Dude has no say anyway, he's not a congressperson. I can't think of anyone outside of like Al Green, who is routinely chastised for doing so, actually trying to die on that hill right now.

I'm not meaning just him, this seems to be on everyone's "What i'm for" list. Makes them seem disparate.

Gillum is my mayor, I’ve met him a handful of times, he’s a nice personable dude in my limited interactions with him. His biggest criticisms are the FBI corruption investigation that’s been going on for two years (though the FBI insists Gillum is not a target of the investigation) and his botched response to recovery efforts when Hurricane Hermine hit Tallahassee two years ago. It was barely a Cat 1 and most of the city was without power for over a week. Reportedly he refused additional help from outside utility companies based on cost, though he says he did no such thing. Locally, Hurricane Michael was a boon for Gillum’s campaign because he made sure he was the face of the recovery efforts in town and brought in 6x the amount of utility workers that the city normally staffs in order to get roads cleared and power restored quickly.

It's not true, but it's certainly been an effective smear.

The FBI isn't the main constitutional body in charge of checks and balances against the executive branch, congress is. If Dems take the House, they will launch likely dozens of investigations into a variety of crimes Trump has committed that have nothing to do with Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Correct, but it is the only investigation really going on right now that has a chance of getting any real information. If Dems take the house and start an investigation, that will take almost a full year, and take another 6 months just to get the impeachment going. This means it would all be meaningless, and a waste of tax payer money. That's why i said the FBI, as they have already been digging for a while. If Dems take the house, and Muller drops a bombshell right after, then you have a good reason to move forward with impeachment. Otherwise, what good would it do to impeach a president when he is 5~ months from leaving anyways. If they find something worth impeaching that close to 2020, i don't see him running again, or at least the Reps will turn on him.

Edit: To my point, people talking about impeachment before any real reason, still look like fools.

A single negative amongst a sea of positive certainly does not a bad candidate make, but is the increased corporate tax desirable? It was my understanding that we're already a bit overboard in that department, as evidenced by a rampant tax loophole issue

Closing the loopholes is a no brainer, but there's very little out there aside from opinions and speculations on whether raising the corporate tax is a good thing or not.

The left would like you to believe that corporations will pay their fair share, happy to be apart of the American economy.

The right would laugh at that and say that corporations will just offshore all their money, and if they can't do that anymore, they'll just leave.

I lean right on this one.

Uh, actually the left would say every other developed world is doing taxes smarter and better than we are and point to how their better systems are producing results we wished we had, like a national health system.

One would think that a closing of all loopholes would be accompanied by a reduction in the taxation that, in the eyes of corporate America, necessitated them in the first place

I mean getting cheap corporate fees from the state of Delaware is cool and all, but I feel like theres a better way to do this...

Last year corporate offshoring equaled what would be an additional 733 BILLION in tax revenue. I would vote for anything with a real chance of getting even a small portion of it.

The only real rebuttal I have for this is that the rest of the developed world doesn't have this kind of issue for the most part. The vast majority of all major multinational corporations are in the US and China. That doesn't mean their system wouldn't work; in fact it would probably work better than ours, but I just think it's slightly facetious for a small country with a completely different set of circumstances to be instructing the US on tax policy.

I mean this isnt either or. We can both fix the tax system and get things taken care of with taxes that benefit us all. There is no reason we can't do what we both want to do other than you'll never convince Republicans to give away things like free healthcare.
