I’m not sure what this was for, but I’m looking to get rid of it off my island. Think cutting away the seal on the edges should be enough to get it off, and then a razor and maybe a heat gun to get the rest off the cabinet surface without damaging it. The problem is the three screw-holes that will be left. Any good way to to fix that? Putty/spackle/paint? Or just put a towel rack there and hide it lol (the sink is right across from it)

Hired a company to put in a vinyl fence. They had their own people come in and do a survey for the gas/power lines. They came today and ended up digging through 2 lines- the one that goes to the garage heater and the one that goes under our patio and into the crawlspace furnace. One was completely severed and the other was just scraped. Nicor thinks the garage one was the one that’s severed, but since it’s a personal line and they think the line was possibly more than 10% damaged, they can’t test it. They did put in two shut-off valves so I can at least still get hot water and stove/dryer, which is hardwired in separately. (Don’t ask me why they set things up the way they did.)

I called a heating place and they send some guy who looks like he’s 16 and is utterly confused by what I’m explaining to him. Like the idea it’s not just ran through the house directly with a metal pipe is just completely out of his range of understanding. He ends up saying- after checking out the furnace- that it’s out of code and he can’t touch it. Despite Nicor not saying anything or the person that appraised our house just a few months ago who pointed out every single little detail didn’t mention either. Called another guy and he’s going to fix it, but it’s going to rain for the next four days, so won’t be able to work on it until after. Luckily the oven and water heater were on a separate line. And then I have to try and get the fence people to come back and finish the job, which will probably be easy because the fuck if I’m going to pay them until the job is done.

Edit: it was on my side of the meter so that apparently makes it ok that the surveyor didn’t survey it, and not the fence people’s fault, either.

If that had happened here in Canada, that company would have been fined like, $50k per line, we have specific surveyors in Alberta you call (Alberta One-Call), they come and locate the underground lines and flag and mark them for you, pretty sure it’s either free or really cheap, not sure as I’ve never had to pay them myself lol.

Yeah, apparently they are only held accountable/responsible if it’s on the city side, but since it was on my side of the meter, it’s apparently not their problem. Which is probably why since they hired the surveyor, they didn’t give a shit past the meter. Of course, if they had said the surveryor wasn’t going to bother doing a complete job, I would have hired my own.

The code it flashes when it's not working (currently intermittent) says that the pressure switch is messed up. We had someone come out to take a look, who confidently asserted that it was not the pressure switch ($50) but was instead the control board ($1500). For that reward ratio, I'm willing to take my chances that it's the pressure switch and try to replace it myself, so I ordered one (OEM, same model number.) One showed up today with a different model number, but the online reviews said that the original one was known for failing (backed up by this pdf) and they were all supposed to be replaced with this other one.

Unfortunately, the new one has the ports in a slightly different configuration and now my hoses don't comfortably reach. I could buy a new OEM hose assembly for like $30, but $30 buys a lot of goddamned tubing and no site has actual information about what's in that "tubing assembly" so I don't know if it'll be long enough. BG, what tubing should I buy for my 58MXB Carrier Gas Furnace's pressure switch? Ideally enough to replace the tubes in both directions out of it (3ft?).

PS. I did put the new pressure switch in and just didn't secure it properly to the inducer housing because the gas tubes would have crimped, so my tubes are *almost* long enough but not quite.

first off, did you try connecting the new pressure switch loosely to make sure that it was in fact the issue? and second any 3/16" ID hose should work as long as it properly forms a seal.

We connected the new pressure switch and confirmed that it works (cranked the heat up to make it kick on), but the test was inconclusive because the current switch only fails intermittently at the moment.

We left it dangling that way and tomorrow is supposed to be colder so we'll see if it drops below our set temp at any point during the day.

Thanks for the hose info. I'll hit the store so I can connect it up right.

$290 in materials vs the upper hundreds/thousands I'd have to spend otherwise for one of the same quality.

I happened to log into Onkyo at 3am one morning and found some magical stock that was live for about an hour. I have an AV company coming on Wednesday to quote me a price on running all my cables and install.

Yeah, and I think I've decided to go 2 subwoofers. 7.2.4, with 2 SVS PB2000 Pro subs. It's going to be...something.

I can't decide what to do about Atmos speakers. The issue is that since I'm not tearing down the ceiling, I can't really put a full speaker encloser for the ceiling speakers. They do have some with built in enclosures that could fit, but they're not angled. And I want the driver/tweeter of the atmos speakers to fire at a 35-45 degree angle.
