Billie and her bro gotta be the most talented musicians out of the younger gen of pop stars

Chain Reaction, a hugely popular venue for punk/emo/etc in SoCal is closing

[Anoat]

It’s uncanny how much Jakob Nowell sounds like his late father Brad in this song. You could have told me this was a forgotten cut off Sublime’s debut album in 1996 and I would have believed you.

[Demosthenes]

The best thing about sublime was that they had a drink. It wasn't that good, but it was the best thing about sublime.

[Zealot]

I have never really thought Sublime was that good.

I think they were much more popular in California and Florida, being tied to beach culture.

[Krandor]

Sublime is inescapable in most of California even though we're creeping up on 3 decades since Nowell died.

Will still occasionally hear Wrong Way or What I Got if I'm listening to top 40 radio in the car.

[Andalusian girls]

can confirm was at a piano bar Christmas eve and the song that got the most pop / crowd singing along was Santeria

[Andalusian girls]

but ya they're like 90% vibes 10% music, inescapably tied to beach culture. huge in Hawaii for the same reason.

[Krandor]

Vibes indeed, who doesn't love a song about murdering their ex's new boyfriend and assaulting her afterwards.

[Mertron]

i was a big sublime fan growing up, owned all their albums including the stuff pre-sublime album and unreleased stuff

they have some bangers but i am mostly embarrassed

[Cantih]

As a L.A. resident, yeah, it's a local hero thing.
But they aren't bad.
I keep monolithic playlists by decade, and my 90's list has 9 Sublime tracks in it.

New Poppy album yesterday.

Considering she swaps genres every album it's nice to see her stick to metal for 2 in a row. She's gotten so much better at screams since her last album too
