those are considerably less jarring decisions when you remember that literally none of it matters or will ever matter

    that in mind,

    1) keep it capped
    2) why not? new spells are unlikely to give a significant advantage
    3) probably not
    4) throw darts at the wall / maybe / sure

Leveling BLU was one of the things I did to sorta loosely acclaimate myself with the game again. Honestly, not being able to PUG DF for the dungeon spells is the worst part of the process, with their power level being questionable a runner up. It also really hammered home my feeling that leveling other jobs could use a nudge outside of dungeon spamming. Currently got cockblocked on needing Glower from AV.

Having what I did, it feels like the "easiest" additions would actually be stronger ST abilities. Probably wouldn't even be against them changing something like Bristle into a stance akin to MG. A more reliable ST cure would also be good. Also seen others suggest equipped spells count toward a role tally that ultimately determines how you queue up in the DF, which means they'd probably need a few more to successfully qualify as tank or support. But yeah, I'm not really sure why Yoshi thought the job would be hard to integrate into the game.

because a fully integrated BLU would have a fraction of the spell list and people would complain. like maybe 20 max. the niches and blatant disregard for balance that allowed it to flourish with its identity intact in XI don't exist in XIV

granted I'm of the mind that they should have done just that-- allowed us to have a support tier DPS job with a single-page spell list and a BLU skin. it would have been just as successful as RDM, and wouldn't have been a gigantic waste of dev time

The only thing I liked from lv50 blu was having a table flip emote. They have 2 options with the crap it is now: actually make it full OP or shoehorn it into normal job. Not this fuckin inbetween.

or the third and most likely option: continue it as is. requires no balancing, and hardly attention now or in the future

Radical option: Make 2 job stones for BLU. One enables you to learn spells in Open World and is the current system and allows for Masked Carnivale, etc. The other job stone has a fixed spell list and different properties/potencies on spells and their own oGCDs/job mechanics/job gauge/LB3.

The two are leveled at the same rate (like SCH/SMN) but the skills differ completely depending on which stone you have equipped. On the party version, you can't choose or equip spells. For the party version of BLU you get spells through quests or totems and while some spells have the same name and animation as ones for the limited job, the way they work would be different. This way, they can integrate BLU into party play while keeping the solo aspect of BLU as a separate content with the limited job stone. It's also faster, development time wise, to integrate BLU into party play than create a brand new caster job from scratch for 6.0.

I mean that would work, but it begs the question of why even keep the limited version around. nobody uses it now, nobody would use it then

Remember when they said the reason for BLU not being a normal job was cause it was too powerful?

It's niche, but let me tell you, taking a BLU into Tam-Tara for the recent dumb Mog Tome event showcases how SUPER OP it can be.

Too bad I'm the only person I know who bothered with BLU.

Yeah, if you wanna keep it locked out make it actually OP as fuck. It's silly that every single cool spell is resisted by bosses.

I’m seeing a lot of streamers on Twitch that I follow suddenly start playing 14 and a part of me says oh that’s cool more people playing, but there is a cynical part of me that wonders if SE is low key paying streamers to play it in the lead up to SHB launch.

Twitch streamers actually can make a lot more money if they stream certain games for a set amount of time. How much depends on the popularity of the streamer but game companies regularly incentivize streaming their game as a way to advertise. Stream for 3 hrs = earn $300 (i've seen up to $5000). It's only available once you reach a certain amount of followers/subs from what I've read though.

Even if, then that's good too, because that's just a marketing strategy in today's world. Yoshi said the game currently has the highest number of active subs ever

I don't think so. I think this is motivated by several things:

    1. WoW sucks now, so all the jaded WoW players jumped to XIV
    2. which is free for Twitch Prime subscribers, which is probably every streamer
    3. and HW is also free, so they can get 2 games for the price of none, which is desirable to anyone
    4. Plus there are a bunch of articles floating around the web about how XIV is currently the best MMO
    5. and also the hype around ShB is real.

The only hype WoW has is Classic and ppl are afraid that twitch streamers are gonna control certain servers.

It's OP in the sense you have to have multiple acrifices after multiple buffs to make that setup work. Main reason it works in Tam-tara is due to the frequent boss checkpoints allowing your (hopefully) coordinate crew to suicide and then warp directly back. Is silly doing 5min clears of the dungeon none the less. It doesn't make up for a niche use of the niche class though.

Oh for sure that is the more likely option. I should have added to my previous post: to make me play it again they have to do 1 of those 2 things I mentioned.

Ya lol. The "fully resists" on spells that came close to OP was hilarious too. "Can't have you clearing fuckin 5 year old content too fast solo now!"

Yoshi says a lot of things. In history of XIV, probably seen a spike like always, but it depends on what they do 5.0 > 5.1, cuz if its similar to 3.0 > 3.1 and 4.0 > 4.1, the drop off can be significant, so stagnating subs is better than nothing I guess.

Yep, I remember "WHAT IF YOU USE DEATH ON OMEGA" and "WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE SPELLS YOU WILL GET KICKED FROM PARTY."

Meanwhile every boss even in Blue Sky resists most of BLU's debuffs, including Doom/Death/Demi (Tail Screw/Missile) skills and most bosses already resisted basic debuffs like silence and paralysis anyway. Though it just proves the players he caters to will literally listen and believe anything he says, even when the game contradicts him. Like the whole 'what if you don't have xyz skills' - You can't continue some blu quests unless you learn the skills. You can't purchase totems unless you have x number of skills.

The game already checks you for that, so literally what stops them from using those checks before queuing?

I'm still hoping BLU was a test of sorts to see how players react to certain game mechanics. Like you said they implemented all those checks and resists that have no place given their presentation of the job. I wouldn't be surprised if "limited jobs" is an excuse to test certain unique jobs before making them a full class when they figure out the details.

I obviously hope that is the case as well, because it seems like a waste of resources to just make this job that really does not have much of a purpose once you get all of its stuff.
