Honestly as much fun as Origins was I think I spent a lot more time playing through Inquisition then I did through Origins, and if the combat feels more like ME3 then I'd be good with that since ME3's combat was probably my favorite from the ME series, thanks for the input!

I haven't watched videos like the Skill Up review talking about the awful dialogue but I haven't seen anything egregious at about 10 hours in. Considering that seems to be the big sticking point the internet seems to be rolling for with to hate this game (besides the usual woke-ness complaints), I'm having a grand ole time

This is a good vidja game. Unless it absolutely shits the bed later on I'm 100% planning to immediately do another play through to try a different class and decision choices.

I watched the whole skillup review, and honestly, I just didn't agree with most of it lol. He complains that a lot of the systems are dated, but he's an Origins purist who wants the old tactical turn-based combat. The dialogue is no more or less clumsy in this game than Origins or other Bioware games, the companion quests have always been mostly unrelated to the main plot in every Bioware game, and he called Veilguard's combat shallow and boring but I haven't had that experience at all. Your choices through Bioware games have always had a mostly-dubious impact until the end of the game.

It really feels like he went into this grading against an Origins curve and never actually gave the game a chance. You also can't compare it (fairly) to BG3 because that game was and will forever be a unicorn.

I'm 7 or 8 hours in and it's a fine game so far, and SkillUp even admitted the end of the game is excellent. My only real complaint so far is that

Solas kind of takes a back seat to the other two villains, when he's by far the most interesting.

I've seen some other comments about boring combat and I just have to assume people just aren't using the mechanics well.

I've been doing Mage with the intention of going spellblade. I've managed to double up my base mana total letting me work multiple detonation combos at once, and I have gear let's me selectively consume enemy debuffs to buff/heal myself.

There's good variety in the combat and I definitely don't have the issue I've seen from some reviewers that the fights takes too long.

i know you guys say the dialogue is on par with other Bioware products but given every clip i have seen from this game i cannot physically imagine it, it is physically unimaginable

but also i'm glad you dudes are enjoying it and if we're keeping it a buck every Dragon Age before this has also been a deeply flawed mastapiece-in-parts. looking forward to this but will prolly wait a while and get her on sale, doesn't look quite good enough to jump the queue. keep up the thoughts and reactions tho s'il vous plait namaste.

I didn't say it's on par, I just said it's not some overwhelming monstrosity that makes the game unplayable like the internet hive mind has decided to settle on.

There are definitely some clunky conversations but nothing that's detracting from the game otherwise being very entertaining

While I haven't played this myself, I also feel like watching cuts of dialogue will always feel weirder and more out of place compared to when experienced in context - and by that I don't mean the context of what's being said, but rather the context of "being engrossed in the game you're playing"

I mean I think watching clips intended to show how bad they are make things seem so much worse than they are in context and taking what the general population says about this game at face value is a bad idea because so many people want this game to fail horribly because it's woke or some shit. The dialogue isn't Shakespeare but it's perfectly serviceable and the structure feels like the best of the bio ware style like ME 2 & 3.

Short version, if you're trying to be a completionist do every available sidequest (except for the revenant/champion ones that you can do at anytime, you'll know what I mean as you keep playing) before going to the Anderfels.

I forgot Inquisition romance was gender based. Guess my retconning from male to female now means my Inquisitor romanced Josephine instead of Cassandra lol

And damn like, I don't remember outcomes from my game so I am going with Inquisition was disbanded and Vowed to save Solas from himself.

I think this is the first DA game where I am gonna controller it up instead of keyboard and mouse. Feels better

But yeah the more action focused gameplay feels better on controller, especially if you're going with a dodge focused defense

Really enjoying the build variety that I can see is possible in this game.

Still working it out and leveling up the gear but making one focused on every skill being Blast type, and then Mage has talents that reduce the mana cost of Blast abilities & adds bonus damage to Blast based on available mana. So between those two just hoarding up as much mana/mana Regen I can. Even got an armor piece that increases defense based on available mana.
