the measure of success with having a kid young basically comes down to your support structure

would your family take on a ton of responsibility, help you raise it, help you financially, etc? If yes, you'd probably come out the other side ok. If not, most aren't so lucky.

Even then, with a support structure like this he would likely go even further without the baby than with.

Yeah I can see where you're coming from, but she was also an emotional wreck and its not really kosher for her to emotionally come at you like that when really it was her decision 100%. But you both were kids and kids do shitty things. She shouldn't have blamed you for her thing, and you shouldn't let it forever rustle your jimmies cause honestly homey you did the right thing.

Also, medical complications from an abortion shouldn't be a factor in how you feel about it but I understand. Shit happens when you go for a medical procedure, shouldn't let that cause you to second guess your decision.

I'm 100% ok with abortion in rape cases, or cases where the mother is at health risk etc, but I feel these are not the norm, and it's now treated more like a form of birth control, and aside from the ruining lives or causing mental issues etc, it's also just... kind of immoral to me for whatever that's worth, and I realize that's just like my opinon dude and a hypocritical one at this point, but I don't know that years down the road we will look back on the sheer number of abortions as a good thing, or a humane thing.

It's treated like birth control because birth control education is fucking garbage in this country and it's run by evangelicals. Fix that and the number of abortions drops. We need good sensible sexual education before that number drops by a meaningful amount.

Man, I dont know of a single woman who turns to a prohibitively expensive and relatively dangerous (compared to pills) abortion procedure as a form of birth control.

I see it as a Get out of Ruined Life card. No one takes actions that will ruin their life, but if it happens it's nice that theres an option to just make all that go away. The emotional toll is a part of the payment imo, use that pain and make sure the kids you dont abort practice safe sex and grow up to be the people they wouldn't be able to become if you had them at 19.

there's a lot of shit in our history that we didn't really do justice

abortions aren't anything new and have been largely glossed over in the history of our country. this country was literally built on the backs of whores who had a life expectancy in their mid 20's because they'd die of some STI, get beaten to death, or just general lack of healthcare. A prostitute who is knocked up is a dead weight and isn't bringing in money. They had any number of "remedies" to induce miscarriages and flush that shit out right quick. There were also plenty of medical abortions too for those who were too far along for some variation of a "flush your uterus" tonic and since it was illegal (hangable offense in many places iirc) that shit had to be done on the quiet and killed the mother too more often than not.

you'd think that'd be a pretty important part of our history as literally every frontier town, mining hub, railway hub, army outpost, etc. ran on the backs of young girls but here we are not really thinking about it all that much
