I would counter that the stakes in Winter Soldier were that of the hero of the film preventing an overreaching authoritarian from completing an all-seeing spy network they could use to instantly track down and strike out at anyone they deemed a threat, whereas in the The Dark Knight that's exactly what the hero is trying to accomplish. The distinction of Cap being unwilling to sacrifice liberty and freedom for security whereas it's literally the first thing Batman thinks of is enough to reinforce my earlier point about Batman being unlikeable in 2 of 3 Nolan films. TWS guides you to a place where you say "Yeah, Cap, take down Hydra! I approve of your methods!" whereas TDK leaves you saying "OK, I get that we want to stop the Joker, obviously, but can you find a way to do it that doesn't glorify police brutality and domestic spying programs as a solution to terrorism?"

Grats on the 4k. I have a 50ft hdmi cable I've been using for that exact same reason. My setup is usually two screens at 1080, but I can turn on my TV and receiver and it turns into 4k mirroring to the TV. I use a ps4 controller to play pc games on my TV and stream hulu easier than going thru the TV apps, but now that I have an xbox I'm undoing all that hassle and using the box for my media. Connecting your pc is fine, but having to always get up to change the media was always a pain.

Well I'd use my web browser and mirror Netflix and hulu to my TV. But to change between shows would require going back to the pc to do it.

artificial stakes, not real ones. TWS's were certainly high, but it was never going to end that way. all the trite end of the world stakes of most superhero movies are meaningless because they're never going to end that way. when they focus on the personal, TDK, Logan, Deadpool 2, Civil War, you tend to see more interesting things happen.

i agree Bale's Batman is mostly unlikable (irrelevant for a protagonist) and only sometimes compelling (most relevant for a protagonist) and it's a major reason the trilogy is medio af in the movies without Ledger. and you're right Batman goes the route of increasingly severe civil rights violations, though undersell its complexity. Fox pushes against the temporary surveillance state strongly and Batman himself is mired in his eternal quandary of being unwilling to take a life even when it will clearly be a utilitarian positive. regardless i don't have to agree with an artist's philosophy to think their work is interesting (and neither do you if i recall your affection for the Punisher correctly), and find Batman struggling with issues like civil rights and capital punishment and an ends justify the means manipulation of the public to be more interesting than 'Hydra bad'. would have respected The Winter Soldier a lot more if the bad was just a regular American political authoritarian overreacting to a global national security threat than going with 'it was all a secret nazi death cult all along'.

it was pretty good, kind of 'a quiet place' rip off with a different sense instead of sound, decent actors and plot etc. i give it a 8/10.
