I think you underestimate how big they can get. While the females tend not to be huge the males are in general a little bigger than Great Danes... but a lot less cuddly looking and well being low lean and long kind of makes them seem bigger than they are. They aren't maybe the size of a large dog they are as big as the biggest large dogs and scary looking big dogs are scary too

My point is it's kind of the exception. I mean there's a guy that punched a shark that was attacking him in the face... and it worked. But most the time people gunna be scurred partly cause even if they did fight back it's usually gunna go the bad way. You don't be badass by doing something actually impossible you do it by doing something most couldn't or would be scared to try.
