Why would he be repentant now decades after the fact when he did exactly what he was supposed to do - identified the problem and sought help to change.

Quick someone find the GoFundMe to help out the pneumonia beat that shitty disease it has.
i think the whole story is bs anyways you mean to tell me he walked around at night for a week and no black guy fucked with him doesn't sound believable
quick question about the new green deal, does unwilling to work apply the gulags?
Guy who made jokes = bad
Guy who was prepared to take the life of an innocent person = “well he didnt actually do it” aka good
if you remove every glimmer of nuance you could maybe see it that way
If you know or say you're a supposedly reformed discriminatory person then you should use your platform and voice to help those you say you're an ally of now and not just say if you scratch the surface everyone has racism and bigotry hidden. That's hand waving what you did away and going well everyone is bad. Bitch we know that but what are you doing to work on improving yourself and those around you?
absolutely insufferable string of words
Like look at Stanley William's. He started the crips realized how damaging it was and spent the rest of his life behind bars doing outreach work trying to undo or make amends for his past actions. I'm not saying that they're equal at all but just saying oh I almost killed a black guy because a friend was raped and then saying well everyone has racism and bigotry beneath the surface is.... it's wow.
Thank u, next the album drops tonight. Stream for an amazing weekend.
True, but his position is such that he could have never said a thing and been perfectly fine. He said something that put his career and lifestyle at risk, for no other reason than to put it out there in the zeitgeist. It also so happens his resolution of the problem is actually quite well, and he confronted his demons, or so were made to believe.
A win is a win. Idc if it doesnt win the war, idc if it's not the thorough confrontation people might want. This is a story of a man raised racist going "wtf am I doing this is terrible" and dealing with it the best way he can or knows. I just cant give the guy shit for that, I wish certain white neighbors of mine could do the same.

It's a sensitive subject for PoC especially black people because there is an added anxiety of every interaction with another person, especially white people of is this person racist and if so how racist and violent are they?
I just think if he wanted to drop this bombshell he should've at least explained what he did and how he combats racist he encounters or still knows.
Oh absolutely. But you're looking at an example of that scary racist white man changing his ways, of his own volition even. Literally all that black activist work...is working. For no reason whatsoever this white man decided to, on his own, try and be less racist. That's fucking wild all things considered.

And I'm not discrediting his work so far but there's only so far you can go on your own to be an ally. Now that this is out there what is he going to do now to further help cement these changes influence those around him or give a voice to black people. Like if he just dropped this anecdote for extra publicity for his new movie it feels performative at best
exhausting trying to be an "ally" these days
