Had an illuminating conversation with my dad yesterday. He keeps trying to push Thomas Sowell on me and his ideas that racism isn't real, civil rights movement backfired, etc etc and I realized that probably a lot of libertarian/conservative types like him love these economists coming out and telling them how government is doing everything wrong and all these so-called intellectuals just mess things up but like, there is no more ivory a tower than the one built to study economics. It makes total sense when I think about it how someone whose specialty is job numbers and economic figures could follow that string of data, completely divorced from legal and social factors, and come to the conclusion that black people are just holding themselves down.
