The Pentagon said Sunday it will send 3,750 more troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to put up another 150 miles of concertina wire and provide other support for Customs and Border Protection.

The additions will bring the total number of active-duty troops on the border to 4,350.

Shanahan said on Tuesday that several thousand more troops would be sent mainly to install additional wire barriers and provide a large new system of mobile surveillance and monitoring of the border area.

Members of Congress have question whether the border mission is distracting troops from their main work of fighting extremists abroad and training for combat. The first active-duty troops were sent to the border on about Oct. 30 for a mission that was to end Dec. 15. It has since been extended twice.

There is an effort to rotate service members in and out of the mission every six to eight weeks in order to minimize any impact.

Probably not a terrible idea on the border tbh but using the military to install instead of contractors or existing border control agents seems like a mismanagement of funds and resources. Art of the Deal I guess.

Trump administration is proposing eliminating rebates for prescription middlemen and offer discounts directly to consumers.

The draft rule from the Department of Health and Human Services would encourage drug companies to offer discounts directly to consumers and would reduce the role of middlemen that many policymakers say drive up list prices for medicines and increase consumers' costs.

The key change would be the phaseout of rebates negotiated secretly between drugmakers and pharmacy benefit managers such as Express Scripts and CVS Caremark. These PBMs administer prescription drug plans for insurers and employers.

A portion of the rebates paid by drugmakers now goes to insurers or employers, and PBMs take a cut of the savings for themselves. The administration's proposed rule would put pressure on the companies to pass those discounts to consumers.

The new draft regulation would set up a pricing battle between pharmaceutical companies and the PBM middlemen.

Trump's day-to-day schedules have been leaked to the press.

The schedules show that Trump has spent around 60% of his scheduled time over the past three months in unstructured "Executive Time," which includes tweeting, newspaper-reading, TV-watching and phone calls.

Trump, who often wakes before 6 a.m., is never in the Oval during those hours, according to six sources with direct knowledge.

Since Nov. 7, the day after the midterm elections, Trump has spent around 297 hours in Executive Time, according to the 51 private schedules we've obtained.

Trump has had about 77 hours scheduled for meetings that include policy planning, legislative strategy and video recordings.

The day after the midterms, Trump's schedule had 30 minutes for a chief of staff meeting and more than 7 hours for Executive Time.

Former chief of staff John Kelly introduced the concept of Executive Time because the president hated being locked into a regular schedule.

My opinion its a terrible waste of resources regardless of who's doing it. Barbed wire alone isn't going to do much to deter people who have travelled hundreds to thousands of miles to get to the border. And even then I imagine there isn't much that's been done to reinforce this stuff to prevent people from cutting it or draping over something to climb over it.

Maybe I'm mistaken but its terribly dumb. This whole border thing is dumb.
