Outside of Eric Berry (misses 90% of games) and Dee Ford (I think is an unrestricted free agent and going elsewhere), who exactly does a KC DC have to work it? KC has to make Hill the highest paid WR in 2019 and Mahomes the highest paid QB in 2020. They will probably prioritize Mitch Morse over Dee Ford, this off-season. Can't pay everyone top dollar.

statistically the kc defense had the 9th most qb hits/hurries in the league this regular season, so they had a pass rush... which doesn't really require scheming at all. a pass rush should mask a lot of secondary faults but their secondary and run defense were garbage, and those things do require scheme. i totally get the fire

I can't imagine they pay Dee Ford considering the penalty cost them a super bowl birth.

Larry is definitely a rarity at that position, something we've only seen from one other guy - Jerry Rice. I don't want Rice to ever be knocked off number 1, but if its going to happen, I'd prefer it be Larry that does it.

As for Chiefs, well I gotta give them credit, the Reid curse didn't strike this time, they lost because of other stupid shit instead.

I think most of Jerry Rice's records are some of the only, truly "unbreakable" stats in sports. Gretzky probably owns some too.

The craziest part: it should actually be easier than ever to catch Jerry Rice, with all of the rule changes and focus on offense today, but his numbers are still unfathomable.

Jerry probably sits as the best football player, ever, period, with Brady, Peyton, Marino, Reggie White, LT/Lewis just behind. Some would argue for Jim Brown/Moss..

i usually give it to guys that were essentially coaches on their team. so rice, brady, peyton, white, and lewis always stand out a bit more to me than guys like lawrence taylor, moss, or deion who were genetic freaks but didn't lead the guys around them

Yeah, I lean the same direction, if I had to make an exact list. I don't go by rings, that is a team accomplishment. I 100% believe Marino and Peyton are the best 2 QBs to ever play, and they would have more rings than Brady if they were with Bill (and the Pats as a consistent organization, in general) for their entire careers. For Top 3, I think:

    1. Rice
    2. Peyton
    3. White

Reggie White doesn't get the press because LT was in New York and had all of the baggage, before social media was a thing. Reggie White has to be the best defensive player ever.

Prevailing belief is the shitty calls where Brady was "roughed" but Mahomes was "properly interfered with" is what cost them the momentum in the game.

But the reality is the shitty overtime rules coupled with mysterious 3rd down defense fatigue.

JJ Watt is probably the best defensive player ever (like Mike Trout is probably the best baseball player ever) - now we're just in the question of how long their absolute dominance can last.

Watt already has more 16+ sack seasons than White, more 4+ forced fumble seasons - but White was dominant through his age-37 season. We have to see what Watt can do as he ages.

Reggie White was consistently triple teamed throughout his career, and it barely slowed him down. Watt barely even gets doubled from the games I've seen him play in. He was also easily the best technician that ever played the game.

    Best CB Dieon Sanders
You can't call a person who couldn't tackle my 10 year old daughter the greatest ever at a defensive position. He was a hell of a cover guy but couldn't tackle for shit. I'm not even sure he should be top 5.
