Really my take away is if the FAA had funding passed thru some other bill, wed still be in a shutdown. For that reason we should make sure every agency faces funding problems in a shutdown and guarantee funds and pay to nobody. Fail to do this and the political hit is not large enough for Trump.

I would not be willing to put money on that.
The people who control the GOP are self-interested/short-sighted and it takes a long time for "John didn't show up for work today because he was waiting in line at the VA" to bubble up through upper management.
I'd say his approval number dropping to a new 2 year low is what really moved the needle here. I'm confident that would have happened sooner if vets werent getting their healthcare.

I went to the VA hospital in DC a few days ago and it was already depressing as is. I can’t imagine if it were affected by the shutdown.
