Was almost a quarter tank of gas just to drive 12 miles each way to and from work after school. If it was cold, the truck would stall at the bottom of the hill when I left for school.

Oh and it would only drive with Premium, otherwise it was even worse.

my dad had a pickup truck i learned to drive on also

he worked for department of public works and hauled stuff around for work a lot so at least it made sense (and he really only did local driving)

Camping and such. People didn't give a shit about gas mileage in the 80's and 90's. Even with California's fuck all expensive gas, it was like 25 bucks to fill an 18 gallon tank with premium if it was even empty. We didn't use it much except for the summer camping trips, tailgating at A's games, taking stuff to the dumps, and any time something large needed to be moved. For day to day use, my dad had his 88 camaro and my mother had her 4 door sedan. So until I started driving, a tank of gas on that thing would typically last 3+ weeks. He only used the dual gas tank feature and filled both if we were going camping due to the distance.

I had a 1979 V8 Ford Mustang for my first car. Only 3 gears, really shit mileage, the fuel gauge only worked half of the time. Too bad the carb caught fire one hot day and that's all she wrote.
