I feel like Invincible's just been a complete punching bag this entire season. Guess that's to be expected when fighting a bunch of other Viltrumites though.

Also Space Racer's laser wasn't enough to deal with the planet on its own? Or was the idea that the force from the trio behind it was physically pushing it further through than it would have otherwise?
    Spoiler: show
the laser would have just punched a foot-wide hole through the planet on its way out the door. bad, sure, but structural collapse of the planet, probably not. comic has nolan specifically saying they have to hit the planet's core as well or it won't be enough to be sure.

Yeahhh next episode should be a very talky episode and not much of an action one. It sets up so much though and is a huge change for the plot.

I loved the slight reordering of events they did in this final episode.

    Spoiler: show
Moving the big reveal to the end instead of placing it right at the beginning like it was in the comics to further Mark's neverending spiral of mental anguish.

    And hooray for thicc Eve

I'm trying very hard not to dive into the comics, I really want to know what happens next but I know I must be patient...

Anyway, this episode was good, as said, very talky, but good. I actually had a REALLY big gut feeling that what ended up happening would happen, specifically

    Spoiler: show
I had a strong hunch they would use Earth for breeding, since that was Nolan's original goal, to find compatible races to breed with, and Humans apparently came out as one of the best choices. After Thragg allowed Mark to survive and him lamenting how few remaining viltrimites there were, and how seriously he took his job at rebuilding the Viltrim empire, I knew he wouldn't just blow up Earth, their one chance at repopulating their people.

Though I didn't know if it was going to go a "Enslave and use for breeding" route or not, the "peaceful" route did surprise me a little.

Now I have to wait god knows how long for the next season, and Its going to be extremely tempting to just... read the comic

Speaking of reading the comic, how much has the show deviated? Should I still read it with the expectation we'll get some changes anyway? Or has it been rather faithful.

Also related but not very spoilerly

    Spoiler: show
I'm a sucker for redemption and I hope Nolan can earn it with Debbie at some point even if just a TEENY amount. I was so fucking happy when Oliver began to warm up to him.

I mean I think he's for sure going to be killed off, I kind of expected it last episode, but I hope he gets to feel some degree of happiness with his family again before that, and make up for his mistakes

Part of me kinda wishing Amazon left the last season of The Boys for later this year instead of at the same time as this season, so I'd at least have something relevant in the superhero genre to bide time with until the next Invincible season.

I'm in the same boat here, especially with how this season just ended.

The show generally hasn't deviated too much from the comics, more refinements than anything else. Kirkman is pretty bad at pacing and since he's still involved with the show he's clearly using this as an opportunity to fix some of those issues.

Any changes going forward I would expect to follow the same idea. As some of the comic readers have mentioned there are a few stories that went on for way too long in the second half of the series. This is at roughly the halfway point of the series now (Viltrumite War ended on issue 78, series ran for 144 in total), so they're pretty well on pace to get this done in the 8 seasons target Kirkman has mentioned.

the only real deviations come from crossovers with other IP’s, like Mark going over to Marvel and almost killing Doctor Octopus and other such crossover stuff

like Kran said it's been very faithful re plot so far, some pacing issues cleaned up and a few characters expanded/altered slightly (almost entirely for the better).

fwiw re the wait the Invincible team is aiming for a new season every single year so 5 ought drop in earlyish 2027.

Yah I heard or read March 2027 ish. Man that seems so far but good tv is worth waiting for I guess. Hopefully I can keep myself from spoiling it. Maybe I’ll just go back and read the already released stuff in the comics to see how it is.

They've been releasing new TPBs as the TV series has gone along, volume 15 comes out beginning of next month and the show is up to volume 13 now (issue 78)

I’m definitely sailing the high seas next season because the amount of ads I had to endure during this episode were fucking egregious. Shit was pissing me off and distracting from the show itself.

    Regardless, phenomenal season finale!

    Spoiler: show
Mark’s PTSD hit me hard. Had to fight a lump in my throat for a good portion of the episode. Almost lost it when he finally asked Cecil for help.

I’m not waiting for shit. I’m going to buy the hard covers to read and keep in my man cave lol.

the comics are great. ryan ottley is an outstanding artist; he takes over i think issue 8 and is the main artist until almost the end. pretty much all of the show changes have been improvements/tightening. there's been zero changes so far i have a beef with and...that's rare because i'm an asshole. kirkman's got 15 more years of experience as a storyteller under his belt now and the show benefits greatly from this.

Ok, so according to the comics, we’re about halfway through. Spoilers for those who read/know the comics as I have a question:
    Spoiler: show
I’m not looking for exact spoilers, but I am curious about how the rest of the story plays out. From what I believe I know, Thragg is the final end antagonists of the entire series. I’m assuming this Viltrumite infiltrating Earth to live amongst them where they “won’t attack but also won’t help against threats is the excuse that allows all the other plotlines to play out for the remaining 90% of the story until it’s ready to end. That leaves: All the Mark Variants, Dinosaur-man, Robot/Monster Girl interdimensional shenanigans, Angstrum and those dudes who basically own him now, and Mummy-ghost dude. I’m guessing stopping the alliance from using the Virus will also be a Before-End-Arc arc, Crime Syndicate guys. Then maybe a few other new threats that’ll occasionally pop up. I do hope the we don’t see Hell Lady and pink squid dudes (sequids?) again. I also know there’s a Time Travel arc somewhere in there where Mark goes back and interacts with the Guardians of the Globe.

Kirkman said recently it’s probably take 8-9 seasons to tell everything, but is 5 seasons really enough to cover all of that?

One sentence largely non spoiler answer to kind of cover where the series is heading

    Spoiler: show
Thragg is not the only primary antagonist in the series, the secondary main antagonist shapes a big portion of the second half of the series
