Was a little disappointed at how the Viltrumite civil war was portrayed. They way Nolan framed it, it seemed like it was a protracted conflict with some idealogical divide but it seemed like it was over pretty quick and just seemed senseless. I mean, I get that it's supposed to be framed as a senseless slaughter but I mean like literally - no one making or demanding affirmations of loyalty, nobody even making accusations like "Bob only killed 42 squidtilion aliens on the last purge, get him!". Thragg just says root out betrayal but folks out here get getting merced randomly, like a guy will wordlessly kill a guy who gets killed by another guy who in turn gets killed by another offscreen guy and I guess I feel it just needed more intentionality even through the fucked up culture of Viltrum. Maybe the idea was Thragg was wanting to get all the Emperor's kids killed in an orgy of violence and seize power for himself but it doesn't seems like it what him using the dude's skull as an emotional support banner.
Seemed like a big cliffhanger to end on but I kinda suspect it'll get resolved pretty quick, Viltrumites just way to arrogant/racist to live among us. Like the first time one of these dudes gets into an argument or flipped off in traffic, or hell has to sit in traffic, it's gonna be another Chicago. Personal theory is the new virus hits Earth, think Immortal's "Have you been sick again? I thought they found a cure..." from the bad future will be the telegraph on that Chekhov gun, kills any full Viltrumites on the planet but probably misses Thragg, Mark and Oliver survive from mixed heritage and kills a ton of humans but doesn't wipe out humanity is my guess.
Minor quibble but also kinda weird how Mark never seems to take an opportunity to not speak on behalf of the planet, offer to take terms to leaders who could make the call even if it was just a play for time, Thragg didn't seem like he was pressing for an immediate answer and they were already there.
Bigger issue is I think there needed to ba a reckoning from the last season between Mark and Eve about him sitting out the Invincible War. She rightly chewed him out when he wasn't going to respond to an emergency after the first time he had a break with Amber and she even rushed out herself to help confront Conquest when she was still injured. And yeah I get that it was for Mark, but even if the situation was reversed and Mark was out if it I feel like she'd do the same thing for such a huge threat. Even Cecil notes how he's gonna have to explain his sitting out to Eve but it seems like it just never happened? Not saying it needed to end their relationship but something needed to happen.
Weird that they keep animating shockwaves in space. Actually speaking of space why does choking out Conquest kill him? Like Viltrumites can go without breathing for days right, given Nolan's trip to the center of the galaxy? Even if choking cut off blood supply completely seems like Viltrum biology wouldn't be affected for ages. I dunno I'm a forum poster not a doctor.
How does seemly everyone but Allen have a gps tracker on Mark? Anissa, Conquest, Thragg - they all drop in on him wherever he's at on Earth, Allen seems like the only one having any trouble finding a needle on a literal planet sized haystack.
Did the Flaxans not actually kill anyone on their last attempt? Just gabbed people? They were shooting a lot but I don't think I saw any bodies. Would be interesting if they did a face turn a thought they were saving people from Nolan. Though Monster Girl and Robot would have been back by now that being the case, they had to have been there for centuries by now right? And why is that early warning device not sitting in the GDA headquarters after the third time?
First time I saw reverse impact frames - impactee frames? - pretty neat but it's also the first season I noticed an animation error, with the dragon zoom in. Wish they could get more resources on the animation team, they quality's there when it's there but when it's not... Eighteen months feels like it ought to be enough time to put together eight high quality episodes if the animators are sufficiently staffed but sounds like it a pretty tight time schedule for the team currently. Don't know if I want to say just give em more time - I'm already pretty eager for the next season so maybe I'm part of the problem. Though no one wants another mid season break.
And why recast William?
