TIL breaking/dumbing things down, and playing up the difficulty for those that are not mathematically inclined, is the wrong thing to do because some competent person might come up with a simple solution that you're already using.

On a general level I am not a huge fan of playing up the difficulty of mathematics in public facing work. Sufficiently advanced mathematics is hard for literally everybody. That's just how it be. It takes work and practice like any other skill. But by the same token it's not insurmountable for the vast majority of people.

I think labeling discrete statistics as "hard" is too often extrapolated to mean "too hard for normal people" and that's both wrong and inherently destructive.
