    Speaking of which. In the French revolution, Louis wasn't executed until he tried to flee to Austria which was at war with France. It was seen as Louis neglecting his duties and betraying his people to the enemies. Before then, the objective of the revolution was for him to recognize the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, and to allow greater representation in government. Until that point, no one had seriously considered deposing, much less executing the king.

    As proof of this, what happened after the French Revolution? Napoleon declared himself Emperor and no one in France batted an eye! And even after Napoleon had been deposed, the French went back to having a King, and then had a subsequent revolution which deposed the successor of that king, and installed...wait for it...a different king!

    In fact, the brutality of the French revolution put quite a few other people on edge and republicanism became a bit unpopular. It was the reason Simon Bolivar wanted a centralized government in South America and why a lot of revolutions in Europe tried to avoid republican governments and just keep constitutional monarchies instead
