Chrono Cross soundtrack is the best part about the game and the rest is a weeboo anime plot that shits all over the whimsical and simple fun of Chrono Trigger, and killed any interest I had in the series continuing as a franchise.

it has a 94% at metacritic, that opinion ain't all that unpopular. Trigger fanboys went full retard because it isn't a direct sequel but it's one of the better JRPGs out there.

Never played it, at the time or on emulator after. Does it hold up? Are there any remastered versions or is it just PS1?

I somehow didn't play trigger until a decade after it came out so I don't have nostalgia for it.

Oh it was released in NA the same year PS2 came out and the first year I wasn't working at a video store. No wonder it wasn't on my radar.

I didn't enjoy anything about Chrono Cross when I played it on a BC PS3 (Thanks to wifey for having the actual discs).

Trigger is a GOAT RPG for me though.

Cross lacked any personality or charm imo. There were about 50 playable characters, but only 2 or 3 were worth remembering or even caring about. The rest might as well have been randomly generated each play through and no one would notice.

God tier soundtrack though.

Yeah back when I was a kid I really dug the concept of huge casts and lots of branching endings because of "replay value" like Star Ocean 2 and Chrono Cross, but I would never have the patience to grind through multiple playthroughs for that nowdays and could hardly consider it an actual extension of playable hours to repeat most of the same game to see a different ending shoehorned into the same basic plot.

(FF7 or 9 is, Breath of Fire 3 is not, for example)
