fun fact Kawabata and Mishima were close friends, introduced him to his wife / helped him break out on the literary scene by writing reviews for his early ignored works / delivered the eulogy at his funeral, and Kawabata stated he had nightmares about Mishima's suicide almost every night until he killed himself as well a couple years later

Unpop opinion:

I don't care if white people play POC characters.

I don't care if POC people play white characters.

I DO think we need way more representation from POC actors, but I think pigeonholing roles into actors' own race/ethnicity isn't the way to go. I want it more like the theater where anyone can play anything.

Same goes for gays playing straight characters and straights playing gay characters. And so on.

what u rec by them? Between the 2 i've only read snow country which I liked but not near as much as Kokoro via Soseki.

Also lel at me having to give a speech about yukio in class tomorrow all in japanese. Am I breaking my drug fast if I spend the next 20hours on adderall?

I wonder how the people who complain about this sort of thing would have reacted to Nathan Lane in the Birdcage. A closeted gay man playing the role of a gay man trying to pass as a straight man at points.

Ok wiki said he "publicly" came out two years after, but also says he came out to his mother when he was 21.

Even though it wasn't public, everyone knew at that point.

I remember, since he was a huge inspiration to my best friend who had come out around the time of the film's release.
