They play more in the dirt than the sand, but either way we usually have to strip them down before they come back inside.

Most houses in L.A. are that close together. Just pop into google streetview in a few areas and have a look around.

Edit: I just saw the AC unit. Is that normal there? You know space is limited when they are putting those on top of the house to give more space lol.

That's unusual.
But most of the L.A. housing boom was before air conditioning, let alone central air, was considered a standard/necessity, so homes either don't have it, or it's shoehorned in however you can get it in there.

Ac unit on top of the house (in the back) is clutch as fuck but would never work in florida where people want back landscaping as beautiful as the front, and also hurricanes lol

It's probably 8 feet from my house exterior wall to my neighbors'. All my HVAC ducting is through the attic, not the crawlspace, not sure what happened when though. My in-laws in Albuquerque have theirs on the roof too, I thought that was unusual when I first saw it too.
