One time? It's usually months and years long receipts that people are pulling.

Some yes, but a few people got hit with shit for literally one tweet they did 10 years ago and people wanted to go full cancel on them.

Even if they had months of fucked up tweets, if we saw growth from that person, and they changed the way they thought and embraced a new way of thinking... why are we punishing that? We want to promote critical thinking and tell people it was ok to be wrong at one time. If we do otherwise, we are not encouraging change, and just making enemies out of possible allies.

Consistency gets canceled, not one post. Look at JK Rowling. Some people jumped on right away when she started TERFing, and some were saying to leave her be because of cancel culture.

At first you could excuse it as arguments over the sex vs. gender distinction. But if you read her essay she went further off the deep end and was defending things like bathroom laws because of predators.
