Funny. One of my high school teachers immigrated from Costa Rica back in the 70s. It was fine to call a black man "that Spanish word" in Costa Rica. He almost got beaten up for calling a black man "that Spanish word" in Los Angeles. He didn't understand the negative cultural connotation for the n-word.

This is why instead of being outraged we should educate.

Again - people don't necessarily have to be rotten racists here. It's just rather simple to avoid being in a situation where you might be mislabeled as one. So, for the people who fuck up badly enough to be in said situation... tough luck.

I am pretty everyone but Tymon gets it.

Chinese word is a very similar concept. When I hear it it sounds like “ni-e-ga.” (I don’t speak Chinese, so that might no be the official pronunciation.) So while it’s close, it’s not the same. And it just means “um.”

I get getting shocked when hearing it the first time, but once it was explained to the kid they should have just moved on and forget about it.
