you can argue any time you need non-diegetic explanations and expansions of a work that work has in some way failed. a piece of art should never have to rely on the artist's explanations.

that said the bros Russo have been engaging in fairly minor expositing all around, whereas Rowling has at times engaged in what is basically post-facto rewriting. the scale is not comparable.

Which is doubly ironic because the Russos are taking the time to answer questions and fill in gaps in our knowledge with in-universe explanations and Rowling could literally say "a wizard did it" but has to answer questions nobody is asking.

I had the problem with having a terrible chief.... and being in Puget sound area in the shipyard which makes everyone depress which makes the chain of command shit on everyone. Eventually chief got kicked out but not before fucking my quals. Honestly it's kind of a small miracle I actually qualified which is mostly due to impressing some people who were actually good people on board. So like had my board for Submarine quals… and it was with the A Eng, the EDMC and the 3MC <.<. Which put me dinq and got my leave for the holidays cancelled and I had to come in during stand down. He was trying to reschedule with an even worse lineup but doing checkouts on dinq study and the Duty chief was impressed enough that he was like you ready for a board right now? Yeah jumped on that so fast... and did get yelled at for doing it then but didn't matter qualified lol. Then my chief gave me an EOC interview that took 6 months.... it finished because the XO who used to work for NR requested me for level of knowledge and drilled me thinking I was a shit head and then left the interview saying he'd talk to me my chief. Guess what was finished the next day? Eng didn't even bother with asking anything either after looking at the sheet my chief had filled out of all the shit we had gone over.

It should've gotten better after that since while I was on leave and almost done with SRO they fired my chief from the division and were working on kicking him out but not long after that I was the 2nd most senior person in the division with the other being the LPO who had never worked with microprocessor equipment we had and only 1 other qualified person and a couple of nubs that went sad. They so refused to send us anyone that we didn't get another chief for about a year and that's only because the boat that he was supposed to go to wouldn't check him in lol. He also got kicked out not long after... though being undermanned did have the benefit of never having to ride another boat despite me being on my own tier of priority to send. Ended up being one of the few people qualified subs that never went underwater

Whites are 35x as likely to be prescribed opioid addiction medicine than blacks.

White drug users addicted to heroin, fentanyl and other opioids have had near exclusive access to buprenorphine, a drug that curbs the craving for opioids and reduces the chance of a fatal overdose. That's according to a study out Wednesday from the University of Michigan. It appears in JAMA Psychiatry.

Researchers reviewed two national surveys of physician-reported prescriptions. Between 2012 and 2015, as overdose deaths surged in many states, so did the number of visits during which a doctor or nurse practitioner prescribed buprenorphine, often referred to by its brand name, Suboxone. The researchers assessed 13.4 million medical encounters involving the drug, but found no increase in prescriptions written for African Americans and other minorities.

"White populations are almost 35 times as likely to have a buprenorphine-related visit than black Americans," says Dr. Pooja Lagisetty, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and the study's corresponding author.

The dominant use of buprenorphine to treat whites occurred at the same time opioid overdose deaths were rising faster for blacks than for whites.

"This epidemic over the last few years has been framed by many as largely a white epidemic, but we know now that's not true," Lagisetty says.

The directors of Avengers: Endgame have revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon take a major step for LGBTQ representation.

Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo said on EW Morning Live that a character will be revealed as gay in an upcoming film, and they suggested it’s a person fans already know.

The topic came up when hosts Dalton Ross and Jessica Shaw were asking the Russos about the small part Joe played as a grieving man in a therapy session that was intended to show how ordinary people are dealing with the loss of loved ones after the Snap.

Joe’s character reveals he went on a date for the first time since the decimation, and describes the somewhat sullen dinner with the other man, who is also still mourning.

How the fuck is this pulling a JK Rowling when they're just saying it will be something done in an upcoming movie?? In response to a question about it because there was a scene of a gay character in their own movie.

Rowling's other works have all been really bad, she's not a good writer in general, she just somehow managed to create the most popular book series of all time (after Sherlock Holmes, I guess). Maybe she feels the only way to stay relevant is to feed her frothing fanbase, but even they don't really like some of the stuff she's been saying.

I think there's definitely a right way and a wrong way to append material to your existing work, and personally I don't mind it if it's done the right way. I don't think it's a failing at all for an author to want to expound upon his work for the enjoyment of its fans. If that material didn't fit or couldn't be worked into the book/movie/whatever, so be it. As long as it's not critical to understanding the main points of the story, and it's just extra explanation or points of interest, no harm done. Some fans live and die by canon, and others have more fun filling in small narrative holes with their own imagination.

What Rowling does is go back to things we thought we had figured out already, whether through canon or through likely theories imagined up and agreed on by consensus, and turn them upside-down, seemingly for her own gratification. It doesn't so much add useful canon to HP fans' previous understanding as try to change that understanding completely, and that's what people really don't like.

The Russos are just adding to our understanding with explanations about how and why they made certain decisions, and what happened behind the scenes to cause the narrative to go the way it did. Pretty standard stuff to add to your work. What they're not doing is telling us that Tony was secretly in love with Cap and the T is supposed to be silent in Rocket's name :D

But it's not a fucking parallel between Russo's and Rowling because they're not the ones who are gonna introduce the gay character. They just mentioned it's coming in response to someone bringing up the gay character in their movie.

It's also not a parallel between the MCU and Rowling because it's a continuing work whereas Rowling did everything years after the fact, without anyone asking about it.

Basically every analogy you're trying to make doesn't make any sense and while you may have a legitimate point about queer representation in the MCU, you're burying it by using dumbass arguments.
