I honestly just try to remove myself from these situations as much as humanly possible. A friend of a friend thinks I'm transphobic because of some dumb shit I said when I was drunk that I don't remember. It was probably shitty, but he took it so wrong I'm not even allowed to talk to him to apologize. Everyone around / involved thinks it is dumb as shit but it is what it is and I'm not fucking around with crossing any boundaries there.
If dude, bro, guy are gender neutral would you be ok with being called girl, sis or any variation of those words?
I would be unbothered.
Making changes to lexicon and speaking style to fit different professional settings is pretty normal - especially for people who natively speak AAVE or are transplants from another part of the country. It sucks but it's something we all gotta do.
Getting management involved right off the bat sounds super shitty though. Sorry, broheim.
'man' as a pronoun is pretty gender neutral here (eg, 'Hey man can you close the door.') We just don't have good gender neutral second person pronouns in English. 'Hey, you' is too aggressive.
I've also never known "man" to be gender neutral either.
The west coast is a land of barbarism and folly.
Probably

I'm from NY. Not sure if it was just who I grew up with. I've also never had anyone confront me about it, including the girls we hang with who generally have feminist tendencies.
I would be fine with it.
I didn't grow up in CA, but for the 10+ years that I have been here, I have developed into saying dude for everything.
I do get why it would be more important to a trans person to be called it that since they are struggling with identity acceptance, but I would roll my eyes so fucking hard if a woman complained only because the word isn't used as a form of power over another.
Saying dude when telling a story 100% implies male. But Ive heard it used when speaking directly to anyone, regardless of gender.

A MN high school is having it's yearbook release delayed after a photo of a student in blackface was discovered. It's the second racially charged incident at the school after students had circulated an image featuring black students labeled "negro hill."

A walkout at a different MN high school is planned after a viral video is circulated of a teacher calling a student a n*gger to their face. The teacher has since resigned.
Yah, I've used "dude" as a gender neutral term quite often, but more as the "Dude I know" kind of Dude and not the "This dude", weirdly, I almost feel they're different words or implications. Side note, I've also said and had said to me "girl please" to men before, my Milkyboy.
But anyway, stupid as it is and it is incredibly fucking stupid, I can kinda understand how a Transgender person might take the concept of being called "dude" offensive. My thing when it comes to offense, if its one person asking me to respect their wishes I'mma do it within reason. So in this situation, I think I'd just not call them dude anymore, probably just call her "Lady", no (M') please.
If they said "Hey man, I don't appreciate being called dude. Could you please try not to?" I'd whole-heartedly try not to. The fact that they ran to HR is weak as fuck.
Also sounds like it's time to put more progressively urging signs on the door so dipshits actually close it. Or bug your boss to get automatic doors.
