If the kid is hollering to the point of a screech and utensils or food is being thrown then the kid needs to be dealt with.

Not saying that happened here, but I am saying there are situations where one should absolutely tell parents to get their kid under control or gtfo.

I honestly can't remember a time where I saw a guardian flat out ignore, or otherwise not tend to a special needs person when they were making excessive noise. Maybe you have seen otherwise at some point?

Although I can remember plenty of times where people were quick to suck their teeth or make screw-faces at certain individuals, and even babies that are innocently crying in public space.

If you can't stop your child from being a nuance then don't eat out in public.

You would think this would go without saying.

It was a noise complaint. The kid wasn't reportedly throwing things or anything like that. The severity of it is completely unknown.

So I wouldn't just throw out the nuisance word. I've seen people bitch about the tiniest things. As stated above, an infant crying. Like, you can't just tell them to stfu.

It's usually people that have never had a child and if the kid makes a peep the parents are trash.

It’s a restaurant, not an airplane cabin 30000 feet up in the air. Take them outside.

The situation I'm thinking of was a 3 or 4 year old, and they didnt appear to be special needs. It was def the worst I've ever seen a child act in a restaurant and I wished they were talked to

Is apraxia of speech really special needs...? I feel like it's a bit of a stretch. It's completely treatable

Yeah I've witnessed that as well. Guess we will never know if the parents were warned or not, or how severe the situation was.

Whelp. I have to do some back peddling here.

Any of ya'll familiar with childhood apraxia of speech or look into it?

Special needs is a stretch. The only behavioral implications are the child getting frustrated if they can't say something correctly.

So ya. Think I gotta just pull the reigns back here and leave it at "who the fuck knows what really happened."

Ha. Exactly. It's not a behavioral disorder. It's not like the kid doesn't understand what's going on.

Uh, but it most certainly is a speech disability that can cause behavioral dysfunction.

I'd put them under special needs, because it's actually not fucking curable. It's a motor dysfunction, and even speech therapy isn't a cure because it has to do with how those particular areas of the brain function.

But, knowing that still has me on the side of "probably could've handled it better oh and not discrimination".

I think this brings up the very relevant point of what do people think is the appropriate limit for parents controlling their children in public. Should they be yanked outside immediately? Once it's clear that they won't stop within one minute? Two?

We've seen a lot more young people who are foregoing children of their own these days and they are a lot less tolerant of children. Combine that of course with a lot of parents being overly lax about their disciplining their children in public. So while decorum makes it more or less appropriate to take young children to certain places (i.e. price which goes hand in hand with being "family friendly") most restaurants cannot outright ban young children and families from patronage (it's familial status discrimination in places of public accommodation) so a restaurant's willingness to tolerate children acting up really does set the bar as to whether families will visit.

What about things like people wanting airlines to offer flights with no babies/children?

Except it wasn't discrimination anymore than it was racism. The mom just didn't know what words to use in what order to not sound like the butthurt stay at home suburban waste of space they come off as. That, "I struggle with adversity raising a special needs child" kind of Facebook poster.

Both potential black jurors removed from the jury pool in a trial because they had previous negative racial profiling experience with police so the prosecution said they wouldn't be impartial to the case. WI Appeals Ct. finds that it's not discriminatory.

As a new father I laugh at you saying this. Good luck buddy. It will happen to you too.

Edit: to the case above I think a conversation would have been better. And absolutely parents need to take their kids outside or into another room if they are being excessively loud. I have had to leave restaurants before with one or both of my kids when they go too overboard. It happens it is nothing to be ashamed of. Completely aside from the story above there does need to be better accommodations for parents of special needs kids so they can go out and enjoy eating out once in a while too. What that is I am not sure but we all need to be out of the house occasionally for our mental health.
