I'm confused. I thought we agreed there are only two sexes, but gender is a social construct and you can be whatever gender you want.

Clearly there is one chromosome that determines what we call sex, and that one chromosome comes in two flavors, ergo we got two sexes. Aside from mutations of course, which vast majority of the time render that person sterile anyways so that doesnt count as a sex.

I think the point is that the woman is determined to refer to people ONLY by what she perceives their correct sex to be, not their identified gender, even if they ask her not to.

You're thinking too hard about it and got a few things I think are wrong.

• Seperating Gender from Sex isn't a compromise. Sex is your reproductive organs where as gender is how you present yourself.

• Some people still believe Sex and Gender are immutable. These people are wrong but they're gonna hold onto that belief with a death's grip.

And my recommendation.

• Don't think about people's bits unless you intend on the shagging them. Afterward then uh good luck figuring it out.

People can be born X, XXX, XXY. People can be XY but have a dysfunctional testosterone receptor and develop as a presumed female until they don't get a period and it's found they have no uterus (this is a heritable recessive condition). People can be XX but have an adrenal condition that causes too much testosterone and present as male (also genetic). These are not 1-in-a-million cases either. There are a lot of ways that chromosomes and the "bits" don't always align.

If you cant pass on those genes like all other life can, I humbly suggest you are not intersex, and just have a X or Y mutation that makes you sterile. But this is all semantics, words have meaning and half the internet is trying to coopt a word that has specific usage especially in the sciences.

Being intersex isn't dependent on your ability to have children or the heritability of the condition.

Just like, read the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article.

That's my point, what does it matter if the mutations in question cannot be passed anyways. Not exactly a whole different "sex" if the animal in question cant reproduce. Apparently some of these mutations can though? Which would be contrary to how I've viewed it until now
