What If (D+) - August 11, 2021

It’s… ok? Not really what I’d call a season opener.

Nebula’s VA doing her best detective noir and it just makes her personality such a bore. Story set-up is definitely “don’t think about it at all”

The entire nebula character has been so boring since she did her redemption arc. The characters voice is just so boring to go along with her expressions. I haven't checked this episode out yet, but I already know exactly what it is y'all complain about

EP3 was chock full of some decent references and was fun too. Hopefully the narrative is building to something.

2nd ep is what should have been the season opener. I think the most uninteresting part of episode 1 was that it was so disconnected from the main continuity.

And while completely disconnected can be fine, the characters have to be fun and exciting. Aside from Howard the Duck the characters weren’t different enough and were mostly played out side-kicks

i havnet watched ep3 yet, but they had a lot of the big names for their chars voice actors in the 1st 2 eps

What a weird release schedule this show has. Episode 4 is out now. Haven’t seen it yet, but hopefully it continues the trend of good episodes that 2 and 3 set up


Edit: ep 4 maybe best episode yet. Also they finally gave us Season 1 Gamora’s origin- which I had completely forgotten we hadn’t got.
Hope they stop with the rock/paper/scissor jokes every time Korg’s there.

Shang-Chi is the only new character I’d like to see more of. Moon Knight has potential. She-Hulk if it went even more on Harvey Birdman side of things. Does Daredevil count as new? Oh and another Werewolf by Night please.

Ep 5 was Peggy Carter was… well, anything that makes me remember the Black Widow movie is by default terrible.

I’m joking. It was fine, just not my two favorite characters and a dissipating suspension of disbelief on how she hadn’t broken her spinal cord a dozen times over.

I liked it. Nice deviation from the MCU period it draws from.

I don't like their take on the Watcher though. Uatu is a little more... Formal.

Kate Bishop, Yolena, Kamala are all great. Honestly, like I said, a Young Avengers team could really work the way the Avengers did.

Also, while people had issues with She-Hulk as a Series, as a character I think she is solid.

A Young Avengers team is never going to make $1-2 billion movies, so from Disney's pov, no, a Young Avengers team isn't going to work the way the original Avengers did.

The money is gonna come from the X-Men, if handled correctly

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a lot of the TBD stuff just disappear and the remainder upcoming project stuff begin to pivot toward X-men and Fantastic 4. Streaming content probably will be street level stuff like daredevil, young avengers type stuff, some big blockbusters to wrap up current events. Who the hell knows what’s going on with the Eternals. MCU has made- as far as I can think of- only one single reference to any events or characters of the movie, which was a blink-and-you-miss-it Easter egg thumbnail website article in Spider-man (?).
