This is classified as gotta see it to believe it imo. It's all gonna hinge on word of mouth and "oh wow that guy is playing the latest AAA on his phone that's neat".

    Soooo hardcore gamers have spoken?

I don't care about this app at all, but I'm excite (kinda) that a giant like goog is deploying their, albeit centralized, blockchain tech.

Everyone's pretty much waiting for Google to stop talking and start showing it off cause really, it's all about the execution.

Well I've got Chromecast Ultras and Nvidia Shield TV which also has one built in I think, I've got a pixel 2 (maybe a 4 when this releases) and wife has a pixel 3. I've got PC controllers too.

Gonna really debate giving this a try. Nvidias GeForce Now that comes with my Shield TV works fucking great and I'd like to see what Google can do since it'll be even easier to use theoretically. I really don't have a need for it because of the shield doing all this does already for the most part, but it might be worth a try at some point if it ends up being better.

I think I'm mostly just hoping this does at least okay if not well because it'll force the hand of other companies, console and PC alike, to do something similar or better which they should be capable of.

Cause right now all it is is a cheaper version of a Nvidia Shield TV with a different library, but with better mobility.

Tbh, there are only a handful of companies that can pull this off: MS's Azure, Amazon's AWS, IBM, and maybe Oracle. Unfortunately, they don't give a shit about gaming lol. Furthermoar, Stadia is more like an afterthought, they're doing it because they can and have a shitton of resources (obvs). Don't get me wrong, still p.cool. Gaming companies would def. benefit from a decentralized blockchain. Sorta like Otoy's RNDR is doing for the movie industry.

Uplay+ support was announced at the ubisoft E3 event. They didn't specify if you needed a subscription to both, but the ability to play what I assume is ubisoft's entire catalogue on the stadia seems pretty huge.

This isn't entirely true. Games that run on Stadia will actually be running on Microsoft's (psure it was MS) data center and streaming out to any device that can run a chrome browser.

For multiplayer, all the netcode and hit registration will be done on the data center and then output to clients. The keynote went through most of this stuff.

This allows your average user with any hardware to get graphics in their highest fidelity because all that work is being done server side.

The only problem I think is that the network infrastructure in the US is largely terrible and is probably inadequate if the technology was adopted by gamers on a large scale.

People keep talking about America's shit infrastructure, but last I checked most of America's urban centers have amazing internet. The only places with shit internet are the places with shit urban development.

I've never lived in such a place, but a lot of yall do so I sympathize. However, as a resident of south Florida, and formerly a new Yorker, I say bring it on.

And by amazing internet, I mean getting at least 35mb/s down. That's not a tall order anywhere that isn't rural America, afaik.

I live in an urban area, and I doubt my internet's ability to perform well with Stadia.

It's probably my biggest concern but not my only concern.

oh fiber, i want you in my diet and i want you in my tubes

Who's your provider? When was the last time you checked your bandwidth?

And are you just not paying for higher bandwidth? Cause I've met people who complain about their internet, and I remind them their are tiers and you cant pay for the lowest tier and expect fiber quality connections.

My base is 25mb down, but for an extra 5/month I get 50down. There are higher tiers but clearly I wont need them.

Bandwidth is not the issue, it's latency.

Which is the primary concern with all of these streaming services, and which Google still really hasn't given a clear answer on how they'll deal with it. Having a bunch of data centers all over the place is great, but electricity can only travel so fast and all the minute delays to the signal is gonna add up.

Well for rural America it's both, cause BG has educated me on how bad they have it. As far as latency goes, we've discussed it ad nauseam in multiple threads on the forum lol. I'm in "wait and see" mode until I get my hands on it or reviewers do cause at this point it's just about showing the product in action. Everything they've said sounds great on paper, which might be the only place it works lol.

Centurylink. At moving in, last fall - we have the highest option available at this location at 30Mbs, though it seldom delivers that.

It's somewhat regularly intermittent too. Maybe it would do better than I anticipate with Stadia, but it's still a concern.
