They rarely hold any business accountable. Republicans in particular have for 40 years used a strategy of herding voters together by expressing the belief that it's not the super-rich people controlling business, government, and media causing problems, it's those pesky (insert politically and economically powerless group here).

A bartender suddenly unseating an establishment congressman, even a Democrat, and suddenly showing up on Capitol Hill and grilling people about why we have these laws that massively benefit the wealthy while instagramming exactly how the political process works to her followers? They don't want any part of that, they want people who will think John Kerry got owned by Massie.

Think about it this way; if we do things my way on climate change and I'm wrong, well dang. We spent a lot of money we didn't need to, but I guess at least we cleaned up our air and water and in general made energy production safer for the environment. Sucks for those gas and oil companies that didn't get to enjoy more welfare, but oh well.

If we do things the other way and that turns out to be wrong, we all die.

she really fucked the duck opposing the Amazon deal, it's not too uncommon for a nationally prominent legislator to eat that kind of blowback when their constituents see them launching a media-friendly crusade to save the world even as they help scuttle a deal that would have given their city tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and tens of billions in economic activity.
