the goal is to hit and not get hit
but nah it uses a modified Divinity engine, should be real familiar. 5th Edition gameplay systems are radically different but game is p forgiving with millions of save and endless respecs

They did say not to play DUrge on a first playthrough, but they also said not to do any origin characters on a first playthrough as if everyone is gonna do multiple playthroughs. Also no fucks were given I'm also running DUrge first, no regrets.
The amount of content in this game is unbelievable. I am still on the topside of act 1 and the amount of dialogue and everything they've added since early access. I am completely fucking floored. There is s*so much story* and it's written so well. As of right now this has met all my expectations and surpassed it. I am 20 hours or so into act 1 and still have another 20 to go before I'm even in act 2 and that's LESS than 25% of the fucking game. Holy balls. Larian, just take it all.
What is dark urge?
Just caved and bought this afternoon and got it installed, so will be starting up after I get home from the gym

Simplest explanation is that it's a it's a way to give a custom character a background story, but it notably makes the game quite a bit harder.
Yooo adamantite gear is fucking ridiculous, god damn
You have to pick dark urge when you're creating your character, they're in the origin character section
Well shit. Didn't even see that option
Oh wait, it's only available if you pick a origin character? That's probably why I didn't see it.
Or did I read that backwards
it is considered its own origin, no overlap with the others and uniquely fully customizable re race gender class etc. basically it does what 1 + 2 did and gives you a (very violent) Bhaaly backstory / narrative to explore with a custom character of your design.
Yeah I just started looking into it. Didn't realize it was on the character select screen. Probably too late for me to restart for it now.
Honestly I thought it was just a dragonborn character called Dark something
Dragon bro is who the Dark Urge will be in playthroughs you don't select (not as a companion just an NPC). Larian has been very cagey about what exactly it is (beyond something to do with Bhaal) but the character will show up at some point in all playthroughs.
PSA: "Targets" for pickpocketing (and maybe other things) are super dumb. It tells you what to need to roll in consideration of your bonuses, not the actual DC. If I have a +8 and the target says 17, then the DC is actually 25. I'd need to roll a 17 or better on the D20 to succeed. If you check with a character with a +0 bonus, itll say 25 (aka impossible).
Was really messing with me until I realized what was going on lol, makes things seem a lot easier than they actually are when you have a lot of bonuses. I think this used to happen in EA with all the DCs in conversations/etc(iirc?) and I guess they neglected to change it everywhere.
So like I said, never played the first 2 games. But this really feels like the follow up to DA: Origins that I never got with any of the DA sequels.
fun fact Bioware started making Dragon Age: Origins because they lost the license to Baldur's Gate during a protracted property rights dispute with Atari
worked out for everyone in the end i suppose
Ok my dumbass just realized BioWare made BG1 and 2. So that completely tracks
I swear some of these dice rolls give x-com vibes lol.
Crit failure on the chapel dungeon, blew up the entire room and wiped my party haha. Was fucking fantastic.
there's a karmic dice option which flattens the probabilities ensuring neither you nor the enemy get exceptional strings of either good or bad luck. prolly considerably less vexing.
elsewise you are subject to the merciless whims of math and your own biased human observation
right of passage for this game did the same within 20 minutes of getting off the Nautiloid in my very first campaign
