it would be more like if CDPR decided to make Dandelion a criminal mastermind in the games who was manipulating Ciri for nefarious ends

Well one did it with general respect for the source material, and the other was a clear case of thinking they can do better than the material.
I’ll be honest I didn’t know Baldurs Gate was based on anything and I’m probably 1000% happier for it.
ought reiterate so don't give the wrong impression, i love the vast majority of what Larian did with the lore and source material (Jaheira especially fucks). just not what they did with 2 characters.
Act 1 and Act 2 are both spectacular and I have basically zero complaints about that portion of the game.
Act 3 is clearly suffering from the content they removed and the effect that had on a few of the plotlines. I definitely noticed the lore inconsistency that AG is talking about when it came up, but I just brushed it aside under "fan service" in the same way that Minsc is still alive 100 years after BG2 (I know they explain it but it's a silly explanation).
It's still a great game but they should have taken extra time and a bit more care with sticking the landing.
lmao I actually laughed at this at work, thanks.thought as the other big BG1/2 nerd you'd be with me on this rank betrayal, et tu Odesseiron?
I'm not happy with the decision at all at what Larian did to certain legacy characters, but Wizards might have had a hand in what deciding what was canon for this game is all I'm saying. I'm sure they didn't just give Larian the keys to the kingdom and said do whatever you want! Who knows, maybe they did and Larian just went with the worst decision. If they did, well, shame on them. Viconia was always in my party in BG2/ToB. ALWAYS. With Edwin Odesseiron, Korgan, Jaheira, Mazzy and Keldorn. That was a bitch to keep together with all those personalities.
same, her story/characterization were too good to pass on. i mostly rolled the same tbh, tho Minsc or Yoshimo-Imoen over Korgan. sometimes Jan if i needed turnip based comedic relief.
also ya fair, dunno the terms of the deal. def possible the WotC deal enforced inclusion of the legacy characters as we see them.
I didn't know anything about D&D lore and when I looked it up after the fact and found out this bit with the githyanki queen is a known element I was glad I was unaware ahead of time. It made the moment of deciding about the Dream Visitor and later with Voss a genuine instance of oh I really don't know who is lying to me.

Never trust a lich
so See Invisibility doesn't really do much eh?
I didn't look deep into it but seems like it mostly just gives an advantage on rolls to spot hidden enemies under the games ruleset.
Its main purpose seems to be flooding the chat log if you get the eye from Volo since it will turn off and back on after every state change on your character.
Aside from invisible enemies I'm not sure what else you'd expect. You probably don't even notice if you did Volo's thing (I didn't) but there are also >0 puzzles solved by invisible levers (as in no perception check, you need see invisibility for them to show up). Usually a book or something will tell you and then I pop an elixir.
I never used it once other than with eye of Volo
There a few places where actually seeing invisibility would make some fights take 15 minutes instead of an hour. Pretty poor implementation imo.
I've definitely had it come in handy with fights with shadows and stuff
It was certainly handy against the hag and those cat things
It was better for me just to put up an aura like spirit guardians and just run around.
That fight was a snap for me because one of them immediately stuck their face in the way of a ranged attack aimed at a mushroom lol. Probably would make for an amazing in-game/cinematic moment for the characters realizing that worked and having the same epiphany I did. Between Eldritch Blast and Rogue's multiple ranged attacks I could clear full waves with two characters just plinking walls behind where they were standing.
Fight stuff:
Spoiler: show
I just beat a big devil that I thought about keeping alive since Raphael wanted him dead but he didn't give me a choice. He also kept throwing bombs at me so I would just throw them back and it was super easy to get rid of all his adds that way.
