Damn what a missed opportunity to name it the Ackbar Maneuver

Same, poor Ackbar, he didn't even get to relive his meme before he died.
I like CBG19's short take:
I finally saw it. I think had JJ done all three this would have been a lot better. Like who knows if they still would have had Palpatine be the big bad (I don't think it should be), but if you split this movie in two with Episode 8 being about Rey training for a prolonged duration and leaving prematurely to redeem Ben (like Luke left) and exploring this concept of linked dualities in the Force, then Episode 9 being purely about eliminating the threat of the big bad it would make Kylo's arc way more meaningful.
Force healing is stupid as a new ability because if it worked that way they could have healed Qui-Gon.
How the hell did Palpatine get the materials to make all those planet destroying ships when Death Stars and the Episode 7 planet Death Star were supposedly unique?
The Force Lightning killing Palpatine only makes sense if you've read the Episode 3 novelization where the lightning feedback loop is explained. It would also make sense as to why she can only do it after she channels the other Jedi.
Having the ghosts on screen would also have highlighted the difference in how Palpatine has taken over every Sith, but the Jedi live on.

It's not unheard of for certain jedi to have rare abilities that other jedi do not, or for some abilities to require more power than that jedi can muster. It's not egregious that no one could save qui gon when, afaik, we've only seen Rey and Baby Yoda use it.
I'm not concerned about the sourcing of materials to build an army of space ships when the First Order turned an entire planet into a weapon lol. Plenty of materials in space to use, especially when they have FTL travel.
And I dont get what you mean about force lightning. The dude isnt immune to lightning, he just had his attack rebounded. This is not a new concept, people have been doing this shit since at least DragonBall lol.
Wholeheartedly agree that JJ should have just done the whole trilogy if they were gonna spend half this movie undoing the second one.

Isn't Kylo using it at the end to revive Rey?
People were complaining about how Palpatine overpowers both of them, level drains them to get a massive power-up to his Force Lightning so that he can take down an entire fleet, but then Rey can overpower him solo just because she gets two sabers. The difference between Obi-Wan absorbing lightning with his saber in Episode 2 vs. Windu reflecting it in Episode 3. It's an ability that specifically requires mastery of darker emotions; so someone like Rey, who is struggling with her dark side, being able to do it makes sense. So I'm saying it's actually not something people should have a problem with given that it actually follows rules established waaaaay far back.
I think Kylo surviving instead of Rey would have been a good twist.
Would have made the title make sense.
How about this. Why didn’t palpatine just stop shooting lightning when he realized it was melting his face off lol?
Jedi using Vapaad/Juyo can redirect enemy's energy against themselves. It's basically like Jedi akido. With Force lightning, a practitioner can use their saber to channel the lightning into a feedback loop, which is what Windu does to Palpatine in their duel. It's not that Palpatine was too dumb to stop using lightning; Windu was forcefully channeling the lightning through himself and Palpatine in a circuit until the charge was exhausted. The Jedi experiences less damage by using the saber as a conduit.
With Windu you can easily interpret it as palpatine intentionally allowing it to happen in order to garner sympathy from Anakin.
Against Rey he just comes across as an absolute retard.
You don't have to interpret it a certain way lol. Gred is saying what the actual official explanation has been for over a decade.
Its stupid as fuck that we would only know that by reading a book version of an old movie though.
Correct. The umbrella term for it in Tutaminis. We see Yoda using it as well, when he absorbed and re-directed Force Lightning from Dooku in Ep2. Vapaad/Juyo and Ataru practitioners relied on it greatly to basically give em a 'boost' or 'Recharge' in a sense since those two styles of LS combat were very force intensive due to either using pure power for combat (Juyo/Vapaad) or Acrobatics (Ataru).
Honestly I have no issues with force power usage in the film. Even the Force Teleports were neat, slowly building up that ability since TLJ. When Kylo teleports the light saber, hhnghhhh that was pretty clutch lol. Idk about that little showboat he did to break muh immersion, but I did enjoy that scene.

What explanation is needed? Force lightning doesnt have the side effect of making you look old. It's been used many times, and afaik the only time it fucked with his looks is when Windu bounced it back.
