Also while the video games have had force healing it really feels like that's just something the games have for gameplay reasons like how games let you eat a entire chicken in the middle of battle to recover HP.

Assumed all the books and stuff were declared null/void. Didn't realize that not only were some picked off but I NEEDED to read them to understand plot twists. As a filthy casual, I don't mind supplemental reading and nuanced things delved into via readings (Harry Potter/LotR) but through me a bone here.

The novelizations are still valid because they are just considered to be like expanded editions of the movies. Nothing in them is supposed to contradict what we see in the movies.

I get this, but equally I am getting kinda tired that movies have to explain everything.

It's one of the reasons I think Fury Road was so awesome. Fuck having a long drawn out side shit, and let's set it up and get the fuck going.


This is not to say I think they did a great job of explain what needed to be explained (there were definitely stuff that would be good to have an explanation), just putting this out there that I am ok with them not explaining some stuff.



I mean when you think of it, the original three did a lot of that too, and we didn't mind.

One example stands out that they totally cut out why Han owed money, and it wasn't until the special editions that we saw his scene with Jabba. Wasn't really necessary to have in the first place.

If you want to take that route don't start up plot points that don't get anywhere. Anakin's saber was destroyed on screen, I shouldn't have to read some companion comic to know why it was back in ROS. It's not hard to not fall into this trap. Furiosa's arm had a lot of people speculating, and Miller in an interview said something to the effect of that it was a long story, but that with a piece of art it's open to interpretation so if people come up with their own theories than it is what it is for them.


With that being said I agree there are things that should have been explained in SW I said that already. I am talking about the overall idea of hyper explanation in some situations. Your example is a valid one. I'm talking about things like Rey making her lightsaber. We didn't see Luke make his, so I don't feel like they had to waste screen time with her. Sure it might have been nice, but it really doesn't take away from the film.


I mean they even joke about that concept for the old trilogy about C3PO3's leg by giving him a red arm. I'm just saying, the original did that type of stuff, too.




And on a note, idk how but I had to point out his leg to my friend who has watched the movies for forever and never noticed it...

The OT kept the force usage simple and it worked well

I agree with the RLM/Rich Evans criticism that it's now too often used as an excuse for lazy writing/storytelling

In ANH, the Force was a presence that connected things, let Obi-Wan trick the Storm Troopers, used by Vader to choke someone, Obi-Wan speaking to Luke after his death, and somehow let Luke hit the Death Star's core.

TESB added in moving objects, ghosts manifesting, visions, athleticism, telepathy between living individuals, and then RotJ added in mind reading and the Emperor's lightning.

Choking and moving objects can both be considered telekinesis. Mind trick, Death Star aiming, communication, and mind reading can all be considered telepathy or generic psychic powers.
