Nope. There are a few instances where the film takes jabs at TLJ and that's one of them.

There's light speed jumping like in Guardians 2 but with less slapstick.

The nostalgia baiting in this movie is obscene and takes you out of the film when yet again some reference is plainly made. LOOK GUYS CHEWIE GOT A MEDAL at the end had me eyerolling. There is nothing wrong with some nods for the fans but the entire movie felt like a greatest hits album rather than its own product. How are you supposed to feel anything for the cast of new people when the movie is so busy up its own ass about the OT?

If anything TROS vindicates TLJ which at least dared to do something other than yet *again* crib notes from older films for the sake of placating fans. I feel bad for the entire new cast who had their characters mangled in order to return Star Wars to a sleepy status quo.

Chewie already had a medal though. Not super fans prob don’t know it because it wasn’t seen in live action but Chewie got a medal for his action in A New Hope. The medal Chewie gets at the end of TROS was Han’s medal, which Leia was clutching as she died. It’s a memento for Chewie of Han & Leia, not a HEY GUYS LOOK CHEWIE FINALLY GOT A MEDAL moment that so many people are confusing.

Can anyone tell my why Palpatine was so fucking powerful in this movie? In the original trilogy he could shoot some force lightening, manipulate people, and lift some things with his mind. In this movie he could basically force paralyze / control anyone he wanted (two powerful jedi at once) and toss them around like little bitches, as well as fucking FORCE LIGHTNING A WHOLE GOD DAMNED FLEET.

Well force lightning on the entire fleet seemed to be after he sucked out power from Rey and Kylo.

I give it a just OK score of 7/10. Maybe 7.5. The music was epic, so that helped. The action shot pieces were the tops as well as the scenic shots. Aside from that, that was about it. The movie's sole purpose was to undo all of The Last Jedi, alongside dropping a mountain of nostalgia down which did not sit well with me at all. They also seemed to have crammed enough story for at least 2-3 movies, then jetted the damn plot out over the course of the first 30-40 minutes which was also insane for a Star Wars pacing.

Kylo's death (and love moment with Rey) was stupid as fuck, but expected considering his face turn midway into the movie. The build up to it was rushed and had no real motive other than the spirit of Harrison Ford dropping in and saying "be a good boy now, thx." What's so ironic about this is that Kylo's face turn was done masterfully by Adam Driver, for it to be such a waste. What a sorely underrated actor. Rey being a Palpatine was a hell of a stretch as well which caused me and my girl to burst out laughing in the theater at the sheer obnoxiousness of it all (same for Kylo's death). The writing was so contrived and set up just to undo the TLJ that it ended up pretty much blowing up most of plot building that TFA set up as well.

Kylo Ren was a waste. The Knights of Ren were a waste. Snoke was a waste. Luke's death was mostly a waste. Finn and his development was a waste (and he was actually the very best part of this entire series since the beginning). The movie wasted the plots of various secondary characters such as Rose. The use of Palpatine's IT WAS ME THE ENTIRE TIME was stupid as fuck considering the jump of 30 in-movie years with no real hints in the previous two movies. They really should have broken out of this idea that a trilogy was needed and at least hamfisted this plot into a 4th movie if it was going to be like this after JJ returned.

I don't agree with people that The Last Jedi was awful. At least that movie tried to do some entirely new things with the story. After reading what I wrote, a 6/10 is more appropriate.

Oh, how they turned C-3PO into their own version of Drax the Destroyer [Dave Bautista] was pretty hilarious. Many chuckles were had.

Finally saw it, I liked it way more than TLJ. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a cluster fuck that wouldn’t stop, but I could watch it again. TLJ I felt like I was being punished for trying to understand how it fit into the universe the previous movie setup. This one makes the most sense if you just pretend TLJ didn’t happen.

Honestly the part early in the movie when they first leave the Jungle planet to go find the sith thing is probably about where the 2nd movie should’ve ended in order to setup this movie.

There really was a missed opportunity with exploring a more philosophical side of the force. I’m a filthy casual for Star Wars but it seems like there’s good (Jedi) and bad (Sith) with no in between. Set aside the fact that Rey has unlocked God Mode for the entirety of the movie and it would be interesting to see how force healing powers are seen as both good and evil.

Pretty sure the only characters that mattered at all in this movie were Rey and Ben. The rest served no purpose except 3PO who had a mind wipe like Data did in Nemesis, except here it’s a sacrifice that meant nothing since he got his memories back. Chewie should’ve stayed dead. I missed the part where Rose said she had to study? I did blink once in the first half hour so I might’ve missed it.

Palpatine’s line that he’s died many times sounded like he meant it more figuratively than literally to me. Like he died in EP 3, and 6 in that he was forever changed. The final 30 minutes were the most weird for me as well as that final confrontation. I guess she technically didn’t kill him, he killed himself? So the whole thing about him wanting her to kill him doesn’t matter? I suppose I should take the lesson people were saying since the last movie in that this is a series designed for children about space wizards so I shouldn’t try to make sense of it anyway.

I should also say that, I think I would like to see some of what RJ was trying to do with the series... in a different setting. What he did just made no sense in the middle of a trilogy and made me not care for anyone or anything in the stories universe.

In RotS he paralyzes two master level Jedi with the Force when he fights Windu. In the movies it just comes off as everyone besides Windu being useless but in the novelizations it's just that no one else could handle the "Force Scream" when he starts the fight.

Windu was probably the most skilled duelist of the Order at the time of RotS. It should have been the most epic fight, but they couldn't do very complex fight choreography with Ian McDiarmid. The close up shots of his face during the fight are horribly stiff.

It was pretty funny how they wrote this off. It was something like:

“There’s too many ships we’ll never beat that many.”

    “Let’s do the Holdo Maneuver!”

“No way that’s like one in a million.”

    I lol’ed

It's a dumb thing though. If it worked really way there's no reason to have conventional war. Just use dummy ships as light speed nukes
