Both my Gamestops had sold out by 10 so I had to come home and order online. Walmart sold out instantly. Got one through Microsoft's site after like half an hour, they're out of stock now. Best Buy isn't live and I never got the Amazon page to load. Best of luck to anyone trying still.

My guess MS will see if their current investments pays off and if they win the upcoming console generation. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bought Sega next. it makes sense they would not only own Sonic but Persona, Yakuza, Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey etc would be a blow to Sony and Nintendo.

there's also some speculation too that it was at least in part poorly coded bots that searched for xbox series x at 11 (when the page wasn't even up yet) and bought the resulting product

I'm sure at least someone fucked up their bot, but it takes a LOT more fucking up to get the bot setup wrong than a casual gamer/parent buying the wrong thing.

I camped the sites as soon as the gates open to join avail, and gave up after a few hours. got lucky and checked BB after lunch and snagged one without issue

Btw the rumored price for the SSD expansion leaked out from a UK retailer and it looks to more or less be in line with other PCIE 4.0 SSDs (i.e. right around $200 for 1 TB)

Not sure where you're looking, but a quick look on Amazon shows that is not the case. Here are just 2 examples that don't mention "discontinued" in the title or item description. There was only 1 instance of it on the white XBox page due to a related item having it in the title.

There are some that have [Discontinued] in the title, but they seem to primarily be the limited edition consoles.

For regular posters in a videogame forum this could be a surprising mistake but think about not-so hardcore gamers, or parents who are shopping for kids.

In terms of naming I suppose since they are going with multiple versions they are aiming for a BMW/Mercedes style of naming (1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 ,6 7, 8 Series) (A B C E S Classe). 5 Series line is called 5 series since 1972.

Next generation Xbox will also likely be named X Box Series X /S and people will likely get used to it.

People are dumb in stores, too. I heard a few "The new Xbox is out!?!?!?!?!?!?!" and then proceeded to buy the Xbox One X.
