I’m surprised he was still in the country.
I'm guessing he had no one left willing to take him and poke the bear further.
I wonder if they're going to reinstall the Shah? Well, his line. I think his son is trying.

Guys I'm sure this is going to make the world much safer just like when we went after all the WMDs and got rid of Saddam!
Not a fan of how we got there, but it objectively will.
the problem is the initial authoritarianism is what leads to the reaction that often results in even worse conditions. it's not an either/or but a causal relationship where one stems directly from the other. that is it is not a question of the Shah or Islamic theocracy, but an equation where the Shah invariably leads to Islamic theocracy.
Well obviously we didn't need to intervene to reinstate the Shah. The point I was making is that outside of fundamentalists who support the theocracy (which we have seen are not even an overwhelming majority in Iran itself given what we saw of the protests and unrest), most Persians disliked the current government. Therefore it shouldn't be surprise that some may prefer the reversion to the Shah because everyone except purity progressives will prefer the less bad option when presented with two bad options.
So until you put "time travel to prevent the CIA and MI6 from installing the Shah in the first place" on the table, yeah people will back the Shah.
