We had a very mild June and most of July in Memphis.

August through now and I guess through the next 3 weeks has been absolute hell. The hottest I can ever remember, except for one week where it wasn't that bad, but instead we got the worst severe storm we've had in a decade and it caused like a hundred million dollars in damage.

We go to the beach every weekend after Labor Day so next weekend. Last year when we came back it was like 55F and beautiful the night we got back in town. Had a fire pit going. This year it's gonna be 102F and about 85 at night. RIP

Snowcrete was abominable; shovels were almost useless. Just solid ice coating everything for weeks.

Happened here too in Jan. Was the worst ice storm I can remember, ever. I put a bunch of cardboard boxes under my tires in a futile attempt to make it easier to get out after it hit. Ended up having to boil huge pots of water and pour them around the wheels to get a grippable surface.

Even my friend in a 4x4 F250 got his own truck stuck trying to get my car free. Had to find a third person with a F350 and chains to get his truck free, then he got me free. Total nightmare. Hope to never experience that again.

Considered buying chains for my wheels just as an emergency measure just in case. Crazy to consider in TN, but we've seen both ends of extreme weather the last several years. Worse winter storms than my friends like Tyrath up in New England. Worse heat waves than friends in Arizona.

Things are going great. Climate change is a hoax.

Feds having to rescue people on the roads because even the major thoroughways were covered in half a foot of ice and sleet.

State refused to deliver plows and salt to the city because we're a blue county.

I'd say our winter was relatively mild save for one storm and my town has basically forgotten our road exists for plows despite 80% of the residents in the dozen houses being over 60.

July was miserable. Lots of 90+ and high humidity days. Don't think our AC shut off once even at night during the month. Definitely had to take multiple breaks mid-lawn mowing. August kinda erred more toward tolerable, but the first week or so was butt. Lookin' at 90+ days again, though. So September isn't off to the best start.

Earlier today Iran said it had fired 5 Ballistic missiles and hit the USS George Washington. US Central Command is not saying much, but it did say a US Navy vessel was hit, but it just caused a burning fire on the flight deck. No deaths reported.

The US retaliated by "permanently disabling" two Iran-linked oil tankers, including one near Kharg Island, and "completely destroyed" a third in the Gulf of Oman.

Based on prior reporting by US CENTCOM that means the GW was sunk and the retaliatory strikes didn't do shit.

The longer this goes on the higher the chance they do sink some kind of ship with loss of life. I wonder how the public would react to that?
