If dems were ruthless and smart they would have Chuck Schumer work in the Senate and whip votes. Assuming its even possible to pick up the 20 Republicans then they should vote on articles on impeachment.

The only other option I can think of for this is the democrats plan on submitting multiple articles of impeachment against Trump one by one and continue to cause a circus around that (Though I think this might cause some burn out and dipshit accounts like Comfortably Smug to go 'Hey they can't get anything on this guy so they're throwing the kitchen sink at him').

But I agree dems should just investigate until the end of time.

I completely believe Flake that there are 30~ or so who would vote to get rid of him if they could do it anonymously, but they are tied to the GOP and they won't throw their careers away by throwing a GOP President under the bus no matter how incredibly incompetent he is.

The real question is do you even believe there's a point where we could see a fracture beyond the usual #nevertrumper grifters?

This is all part of Trump's 4D chess plan to avoid impeachment through double jeopardy.

They need cash flow for all the TV ads they're gonna do. Remember the kavanaugh hearings? Theirs gonna be TV ads talking about how we need to call our representative and tell them to not support impeachment and get back to work.

True, in the real world Donald Trump is the conservative crusader foretold by Ron Paul but I just cannot accept it!

In all honesty I think that the GOP removing Trump at this point if impeachment goes through to the Senate would be a smart move. They get to appear bipartisan and like they are "doing something" this would appease many of the moderate independents and Republicans who dislike Trump and they would still get a GOP president in Pence who would arguably be a better president for them and would be able to get more done in the last couple months than Trump has done in 3 years.

I know this won't happen but it seems like a good strategy to me. It is a small tradeoff to give the Dems a win. Though I guess the whole election and getting a candidate on the ballot thing would be the only catch on that plan.

There are very few Republicans who dislike Trump, and Senators who vote to impeach him will be punished in primaries.

I think they fear that this will lead to an abandonment of the party by the extremists. Remember that the GOP was widely considered to be on a crash course with a party identity make-over after Obama had proved the Bush formula was defunct until Trump surprised everyone by showing that they could still win if they gave the people on the sidelines "something to vote for" (i.e. taking their country back by marching with tiki torches). All those people will probably stay home unless Pence embraces being a Trumpian anti-establishment anti-deepstate nutjob and even that wouldn't necessarily save some of the Senators that vote for impeachment.

Rudolph W. Giuliani, whose actions as President Trump’s personal lawyer have helped set in motion an impeachment inquiry, abruptly canceled his scheduled paid appearance at a Kremlin-backed conference in Armenia next week.

Giuliani, who confirmed to The Washington Post on Friday morning that he would attend the event, reversed himself that evening after The Post reported on his participation in the meeting, which Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top Russian officials are expected to attend.

The two-day conference is sponsored by Russia and the Moscow-based Eurasian Economic Union, a trade alliance launched by Putin in 2014 as a counterweight to the European Union.

According to an agenda for the event posted online, Giuliani was set to participate in a panel led by Sergey Glazyev, a longtime Putin adviser who has been under U.S. sanctions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine five years ago.

Giuliani said Friday evening that he was no longer planning to attend the meeting. “I didn’t know Putin was going,” he said in a brief interview, adding in a text: “Discretion is the better part of valor.”

Quick reminder that 92% of Republicans voting in 2016 voted for Trump, which were better numbers than Mitt Romney pulled.

Second reminder that 43% of likely voters support Trump right now. Republicans make up, wait for it, about 47% of likely voters.

Trump's supporters are not extremists that have taken over the Republican party. They are almost the entire Republican party.

There's a reason people say Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line.

I always heard it was Democrats eat their young, Republicans toe the line. But that works too I guess.

Useful thread about the Senate's constitutional / rules-based responsibility if the House delivers impeachment to them.

Is it really that, or is that the more rational conservatives no longer consider themselves republicans as long as trump is in charge?
