It's only a matter of time before these people start replacing investigating journos as well. Washington Post and New York times won't live long either. Would you prefer news organizations didn't issue retractions? I don't understand that complaint. We exist in a 24-hour news cycle which, as a consequence of the cell phone footage you laud, has an impossible amount of information flowing in at all times. To keep ahead of the curve everyone has to broadcast the news as it comes.

Print media is certainly on its way out, but those millions of dollars you're referencing are spent on investigative journalism (except for Fox, which outsources all of its stories). The alternative media you reference doesn't have any sort of investigative apparatus or oversight to ensure quality. People on the ground with cell phones are rarely an excellent source of context or follow-up, or have the access to conduct interviews with people connected to current events.

I remember a decade back, I was giving cable/international news channels a go. I hit RT, and I was kinda amazed by what I saw.

You know your local/regional newscasters, and is generally not Family Guy caricature stuff, but, they're not really cut out for it. (I literally just walked past the front room with Los Angeles ABC 7 Local on, and it was still clearly stilted and cringe inducing with the casters trying to banter.)

Well here was the news, being delivered as professionally as could be. Serious, confident, by someone who wasn't just repeating today's shit of a teleprompter.
But there was something different. The newscaster wasn't 40 years old, but mid-20s, their suit well cut and a non-standard color yet still subdued, to complement the dyed parts of their hair, and she had eyebrow piercings to go with an ear full of them.
I was all "See, these people aren't weird, unpresentable, or incapable. Just get out of the way let them do the job!"

So I noticed RT a bit more. Thankfully the fact that I used FARK saved me fairly quick. "It's not news, it's FARK.COM" and their culture of mocking and dismantling poor news (at the time anyway), meant RT popped up as often as the Daily Mail. I learnt quickly it was a propaganda outlet, and dropped that shit. I realized they were doing the same thing Fox does with their blue eyed blonde newscasters, and I got caught by it.

It's a shame though, because that anchor was legitimate good at the job, and "proper" networks probably never gave her the time of day, so there they were working at fucking RT.


Anyways, if you source your news from RT, you're a fucking idiot. Start on the path to fixing yourself by dropping that shit.

I'd say RT is fine as long as its not remotely related to Russia. It'd be like trusting Al Jazeera with reporting on Qatar. I don't remotely touch RT so maybe things have changed in a few years but I can't imagine its like OANN tier garbage.
