My point is that children's deaths and death are politicized all the time. And it isn't insensitive it is the right thing to do if you are trying to stop those children deaths. If you want to stand idly by and let more people/kids die then the right thing to do is to be "sensitive" around it. The reason why deaths are politicized is to attempt to sway policy or behavior to stop more people from dying.
Edit: Also I am not surprised he was fired for it either and you made a good point about posting it to twitter. I still disagree with the paper for firing him though and think it was not a smart move on their part.
Pretty obvious. You "disagree" with them, so you must be a Conservatard Trumpie Badguy, so //activate"RightWing"BadguyWhataboutismploy.
PS- for the comic, I understand the message is trying to send even if I'm not 100% behind it(like 90%), on the consistent terms i argue I think this kind of thing should be protected under Freedom of expression. Don't think he should have lost his job, but thats the world we live in today I guess.
That isn't what happened at all. If you are going to comment at least read the progression of the conversation before jumping in. I was actually saying that it is normal and an important strategy ALL around on both sides to politicize tragedy because it is a powerful tool to try to stop the tragedy from happening again. I disagree with the ultra conservative stances but I totally see that they think they are coming from a justified standpoint when they politicize tragedy. I also see the same for liberals who want to stop a perceived tragedy.
Nah.
Sarcasm aside, you're right though. It is normal for both sides to heavily politicize deaths. Which to me is wrong no matter how you slice it since I think its a very stupid idea to make laws and regulations as a knee-jerk reaction to a tragedy cause surprise hello Tyranny.
Edit: (not to you) Hey now that its not only Righties getting fired for Political speech is it time we stand up for freedom of expression together? Or no, cause man I want a cross-isle cause we can all stand hand-in-hand by and I'd love if it was basic human rights like Freedom of Expression, such as being able to make a political satire cartoon without being say, beheaded or fired.
I disagree that politicizing death automatically leads to knee jerk reactions. It can sometimes but not always. I think knee jerk reactions can stem from a variety of factors. I still think it is ok and a powerful tool to politicize death if your end goal is to prevent further death.
How can you be not surprised? Have you ever seen a political cartoon?
I usually think people sometimes give you an extra hard time, but come on. Political cartoons are well known for this. Yes, including putting victims in.
Here's an example just off the top of my head that was famous:
But you could find a ton of them.
The problem with the cartoon is that it suggests Trump indifference to the death as opposed to him intentionally implementing policies that get this result.
The golf cart should be parked blocking the door to the asylum office at a nearby bridge or something
yes it's hard to communicate complicated concepts in a drawing sometimes
Gun violence is another subject which politicizes deaths. In that case, I think we need these kinds of actions because we clearly aren't doing enough to stem the occurrences. There are multiple issues normally built into one event like that, but it seems we have the same conversation every time.
This is just another example of the same thing. This image makes me uncomfortable, especially the original photo, so I think it's doing its job.
Idk. I don't think that one is the same, that's wholesome if I'm remembering the context correctly. If I'm that dudes family I want to see that cartoon. If I'm the guy and child's family on the one a page ago I don't want to see that cartoon
I didn't say always or automatically though, I said it was stupid to make laws from Knee-jerk reactions, which tragedies like this can often lead too because they pull really hard on your emotions and heartstrings opening you up for illogical and drastic compromises. We're still dealing with Post 9-11 bullshit like not being able to bring water on a flight. To do nothing would be equally absurd as well, though.
For the record, I'd like to point a bit more clearly - Cartoons ok in my book, I don't agree with it entirely, but its okay, this is what political cartoons are.
It's good because it highlights what that guy did, but if you look at it from the other side, those are all people, including the children, that were victims of gun violence.
A lot of people show more concern about the message that cartoon sent than the message this president sends when he blocks asylum seekers, like the ones face down in that cartoon, from applying for asylum the "correct" way.
He literally made the problem and people are rustled because they're illustrating exactly what it is his policies did. If you're outraged about the cartoon, be outraged at the concentration camps along the border.
Obligatory not specifically calling out anyone on BG, I'm just sayin overall.

I don't think this is a good argument to make. The original photograph did not have this backlash that we're seeing of the cartoon simply because the cartoon shows an uncaring Trump in addition to the dead father and child. We're still looking at a "reality" versus the cartoon Ksan posted which is pure fantasy.
It's politicizing dead children in a way the family can't care too much for, any way you dice it lol... I like how the focus always is bought back to how it's supposed to make people feel about Trump instead of the dead people
That's what a political cartoon is for. It's a comment on the current politics.
