i'd say there's 5% actual discussion, 95% insults and baseless accusations/claims/replies. key word baseless

I think I've posted all of once or twice in this particular thread but I am usually lurking (and chat semi-regularly on Discord with a few of the people that frequent it).

There are a lot of insults being thrown around, but over the years I've observed some good faith discussion between people of different viewpoints and ideologies. While the insults/accusations might outweigh them, I also wouldn't say it's exceedingly rare. As noted before, AG/Archi are a good example. People could even have civilized discourse with Day sometimes.

I do also see a lot of people trying to actually engage people and point out weaknesses in their arguments or actually concede when a point might have been misrepresented or misinterpreted (note Eurell's earlier response).

Most of when I see it go wrong is when someone doubles down on a position after getting fact-checked or backpedals on an argument, rather than note 'yeah my bad' or 'I misspoke'. Understandable and all since being called out can be jarring for some, but still.

And with that, my annual post in this forum is done.

Except AOC isn't obnoxious, obtuse, has only rarely posted questionable things and owns them, is generally liked except by Trump supporters obviously, is only polarizing to Trump supporters, isn't in any way deceptive (and certainly not in the same universe as Trump), has actual workable plans (even if a few are lofty - and we need some lofty ones).
