as any behaviorist will relay it is much easier to condition than to decondition and neural pathways become more deeply embedded over time making personality or preference change in the adult far more difficult than the same in the child.

as to the limits of conditioning, i posit there are few. quite few. we saw what was possible with the most rudimentary conditioning in Little Albert and on a wider scale what the Hitler Youth was turning German children into, what the Kim dynasty has done to generations of North Koreans. the greater the coercion and the earlier it begins the more effective the results.

that said there are limits, some biological imperatives in some individuals which appear immune to conditioning. the expression of sexuality is, for most, not one.
