CS seems like a reasonably intelligent human, which only means he knows what he's doing in there, or it is a desperate cry for help, but if those close to him irl can't reach him I don't know how any of us are supposed to. There are folks in there really trying hard and likely struggling and like you said that is the last ass thing they need to see. This site has more lurkers than you think also, he can keep that shit to the random win/fail threads if he wants to brag about his drinking like he just got out of high school.

A close friend is just recently (weeks) owning up to the fact that she is an alcoholic, like the rest of her family, and is struggling badly with being young and realizing that her entire social structures are built around alcohol. It's been really enlightening to see how all the discussion and references to alcohol that are all over the place can be stressful triggers to someone who is newly trying to quit. I don't think before this that I would've realized how hard it can be for some people to open up a thread that they expect to be safe to see that, but now that I do, man it's not cool to a very high degree.

My best friend had to come to grips with his alcoholism after hitting the walker out of an old man's hands in a crosswalk while drunk driving

He nearly got a serious felony charge and prison time but the old guy wasn't hurt from the fall.

I visited him in jail (he was there for 3 days before they dismissed the most serious charge) and he said "I know I can't drink anymore but I don't know how"

Intense AA and court-ordered therapy and he'll be 8 years sober this November, hasn't drank since he was arrested.

And he was extremely high-functioning even in the depths of his alcoholism - held down a 6-figure video game programming job where he was a top performer, trained for and completed the LA marathon, got laid, etc. Now he's married with a kid and another on the way and founded his own company that has a contract with Sony for a new VR game.
