There is a big concern right now that vaping is getting kids/teens back into smoking because it doesn't have the stigma that we worked so hard to create against cigarettes due to its perception as less harmful.

Of course one wonders why they didn't also ban regular tobacco if the priority was becoming a smoke free city and doing parents' jobs for them.

Less harmful yes, but the concern is that kids often think that it's 100% safe when it isn't. It's still introducing particulate into your lungs, just not nearly as harmful as tar.

More importantly, it's an effective alternative to smoking because it has nicotine so it still creates nicotine dependence.

That is a pretty decent argument that our focus should shift to motivating other sections of the electorate to vote. Harnessing outrage from other voting blocs might be more potent in this cycle than banking on the distaste of white moderates for Trump's racism.
