The Knicks and owner Jim Dolan were not prepared to offer Kevin Durant a full max contract due to concerns over his recovery from the Achilles injury, league sources tell me and @wojespn. Knicks officials are in Los Angeles tonight, meeting with free agents such as Julius Randle.

Reports are that KD was actually leaning to the Knicks but didn't hear from them because they (Dolan) were scared about committing the max after his injury and what happened with Amar'e. After getting the run around he went with the Nets.
Maybe there’s a team option after the first year? At least he’s 24? Maybe he’ll grow with the team? At least it’s not $180million for Tobias Harris?
Also not buying the Kd heresy. The Knicks are the Knicks. If Dolan knows one thing, it’s how to spend big on dudes past their prime.

I don't think it's a bad signing. What were they going to do, let him walk? Jimmy will probably still be the better player for another year or two but he's 3 years older and has much more mileage
He's a better basketball fit with high usage Embiid and Simmons and I'm sure they think he's a better culture fit as well

Tobias Harris is certainly the most anonymous athlete in human history to sign for that kind of money

And yes I'm saying he's more anonymous than Kris Middleton
