It's Happening

tldr - ESPN sent out a memo expressly forbidding their employees from even mentioning Chinese/Hong Kong politics when covering the story about Chinese/Hong Kong politics
The point is to not discuss the Hong Kong situation at all. That's the Chinese sticking point.

Max Kellerman looked like he was about to shit himself on air but dude straight up name dropped Tiananmen Square live on ESPN and said the US-China relationship was based off mutual interests, not mutual values, and he didn't know what kind of country America is if saying a repressive communist government is bad is now controversial.
ESPN itself has yet to upload the clip but third parties are throwing it up all over the internet

I'm sure it'll get pulled, but here's the First Take clip from today.

If someone tells a black man to shut up and dribble its "OMG HOW DARE YOU!"
But it's ok to tell Morey to "Shut up and just GM"
Got it.
It's in the best financial interest of most American companies to look like they care about social issues because it leads to good press outside of normal sports media circles.
Look at WWE for example, Stephanie McMahon dropped this one a few years ago -

But they have no problem accepting Saudi blood money to put on shows there every couple months.
I'm actually willing to give Adam Silver and the NBA some credit on this one tho. Even if it may just be a reaction to the bad press from their initial response, Silver looks like he's holding strong on accepting the consequences of not punishing Morey, which is more then we could probably say about most other businesses in this situation when China starts swinging their dick around
Funny enough the NBA is now in the unenviable position of alienating its domestic fans in its effort to placate the Chinese ones
