The best advice one could give is get your brother a lawyer like yesterday. The first one to initiate proceedings and get the ball rolling is the one with the advantage the whole way through.

If you can afford it, get a small camera or two and put them in the high traffic areas where an altercation is likely to happen and can be recorded. She sounds vindictive and the powers that be are already biased towards her so he needs every advantage he can get.

Also, as an aside, call him often. 100% med disabled vet with wife issues and twins? I cant imagine how that man is coping right now. This story is already tragic and the demographic is having issues with depression and the like.

These are the more important questions that need to be answered because if he's leaving these children with her for days every week, the chances of fatal neglect happening are extremely high. While not ideal, look into CPS and that route until she can be shown to be an unfit parent and also abusive.

This isnt ending amicably, so you might as well go full balls to the wall now. Unless hes 100% sure he can make it work with her after all this, he needs to be operating as if the only interests that matters are his own and the kids. 100%. Not 99.9%. 100% Plus Ultra.

It sucks but after seeing my parents divorce, another 3 divorces from my dad, and the uncountable divorce stories I've heard from friends, psychologically prepare him for the incoming separation and make the moves that are going to happen anyways. Idk you enough to really say, but if this was my brother and I had the means, I'd be the cold hearted asshole getting the lawyer lined up, figuring out the best way to take audio or video in the home jic of an altercation, and making sure he always has help with the kids so it never looks like hes coming up short in that department when the state takes a gander.

For all intents and purposes man, this is an emotional war being engaged and needs to be addressed as such. Divorce alone can destroy a person, let alone divorce, ppd, disability, and twins as a cherry on top.

I don't think getting her "in trouble at work" is going to be productive whatsoever. She needs psychiatric help, and their kids need to be protected. Your brother should be doing everything in his power to get custody of the kids (get a lawyer already Jesus), he should probably get CPS involved, he should document everything he can, he should tell his dumbass sister not to smoke weed at his house or do anything that could weaken his claim to custody.

To everyone else: PPD is fairly common. Post-partum psychosis is not, but it's real, and extremely dangerous.

He's had an attorney for awhile now. I've had to walk him through the process of finding one and re-tell him everything she says, and also compose all the questions he asks before any of their meetings or calls because he's tied up in such an emotional knot over this he can't keep anything straight. He's straight up told me Iraq wasn't as stressful as this has been.

There is a settlement agreement between them but it hasn't been finalized, if they reach terms they both agree on she'll leave the house and at least he'll have that.

It would be great if she got psychological help, but who's going to make her? She's on anti-psychotics but her drinking negates the effects. My brother is willing to pay to force a psych evaluation, but people pass those all the time. Not only that, but multiple attorneys have told him that the judges where he live overwhelmingly favor joint custody of children and won't entertain the idea that kids aren't better off without both parents around.

I forgot, one of the reasons on her order of protection that got him thrown out of the house for a week was that he has hidden guns in the house and she's worried he'll try to kill her. He hid the guns (and removed the ammo and firing pins) after she attempted suicide.

So we can know all these things and we can observe that she's unbalanced, but without a major public breakdown or DUI or even an incident where one of the babies is hurt under her care, she's getting some degree of custody (that she doesn't actually want except she thinks it would make her look bad if she didn't).

I agree that trying to make her lose her job isn't a good solution, but they apparently like her so if they told her they wanted to transfer her somewhere and she had to pick between her job or her kids, odds are she would choose her job and sign custody over to my brother.
